Safe to say there is some politics involved in these previews on both sides.

It's really a shame because, these games honestly don't have to compete. If people pick up Backbreaker and enjoy it for three months, they probably got their moneys worth. Then they can move on to Madden if they want. People do it with NCAA all the time.
These games will compete because BB is being looked at and talked about as a PRO football alternative with PRO football rules and presentation. Speaking for myself, i buy 1 pro football game a year and 1 college.. My pro this year IS backbreaker.. Good or bad Madden doesnt get my money anymore, i was done with EA 2 yrs ago.

If you want sim, the closest thing is Madden, and it has gotten a lot better.

I cant wait for everyone to be Disappointed and come on here a cry about it.
Madden isnt sim, if you want sim look at All Pro football 2K8

Noooooo he didn't drop INTELLIVISION on us!!

(:

just because a tackle looks nice doesnt mean jack s**t if the football sucks.
Youre right , if the gameplay sucks, nice tackles, collision detection and football physics won't matter.

But as it is, we can't even get our AMERICAN Devs to produce a football game with physics, collision detection and of course nice tackles..

the only sport where ive seen pro-tak is Australian rules football Dammit i want football not INVICTUS??!

(:

LOL. You guys are old. Wait, I had one of those myself.

Backbreaker's gameplay is the main focus. It just so happens that they used Euphoria Motion for tackles and just about everything else in the game. Euphoria was not just used for tackles. We will see how different this game is from the traditional scripted animation football games.

I finally broke free from EA's grasp this year.

LMAO. Madden is NOT sim and never has been on next gen and at this rate they never will be. As for BB,those are NOT abs, those are part of the uniform. The players clearly do NOT look the same, you can tell the difference in sizes with the players, just open your eyes. Oh and I cant wait until I see all the Maddenites talk about how crappy Madden 11 is.

There's no reason why they can't make a great game. First off football is CLOSE enough to rugby so it's not like they have no concept of what football is and the NFL was there for quite a while. Look at baseball. Japan, Cuba, DR and other countries are producing more baseball players than we are and that's supposed to be a red, white and blue blooded sport, more so than football. I don't know many developers who have actually fought Locust or dragons yet Gears of War and Final Fantasy games seem to have no problem selling.

I'm not seeing this "ultra-positive" that you're talking about. They seem to be cautiously optimistic. They said"While I came away from my demo amazed by what Backbreaker has to offer, I acknowledge that it'll take a lot more playtime to fully grasp how deep the gameplay is. It may look pretty, but does it offer the depth that football fans have come to expect?". I wouldn't exactly call that glowing.

Now whatever they piled on Madden was probably well deserved. EA talked all this garbage about studying NFL 2K5 and from what I've seen the only thing they took away from the game was close-up of the crowds in cutscenes. Funny thing is the demo seemed to play better than the actual game and that wasn't saying much.

You're half right. Madden 11 will come out. A bunch of people will post how great it is and how they are selling/trading in this and that to get it only a few weeks later to come to these forums crying about how disappointed they are in Madden 11 and want back in with Backbreaker
