Re: NHL 10 Roster Update 7 and Tuner Set 1.03 Available, Post Impressions Here

Yeah, I can agree with that. I guess I am thinking more in terms of the online game just moving too fast. It's extremely fast up and down and the stickhandling is a bit much when you see a guy like Z.Chara doing a 360 with the puck. The game does seem like it's played at top speed almost the whole game. And then there is the issue of that top speed just being too fast.

But here's where I am coming from re: acceleration - in hockey acceleration is very fast. It doesn't take long to get moving very fast. It's amazing how quick a good hockey player can accelerate to (at least near) top speed. So in that sense, I don't see a huge issue because acceleration should be quick in hockey. The issue to me is that you shouldn't be able to maintain that speed so easily upon stick handling and turning and I guess that's why I called it a top speed issue and not acceleration issue. Maybe it's more an agility issue. Am I making sense at all? Skaters just move too fast turning and stick handling with the puck and combine that with the fast overall gameplay online and it makes a lot of frantic up and down hockey. That's why offline with game speed at 1 plays out so well, IMO.

LOVING the goalies...they get out of position, try to see around screens and are generally much more human. I have even seen a few save scenarios play out that I'd never seen before. I also love the fact that it's worth your while to take a look at the goalie's positioning before unloading a shot as opposed to the shoot and pray from earlier tuner sets.

The hooking/stickwork is much improved...you can get close and give little tugs with your stick now...you don't necessarily drag them down or spin them around and you can get away with it from time to time. I love putting a little hook on a guy coming in front of the net

All in all, it is so much more organic now, I am finding. Great job.

Agreed.

The goalies seem quite a bit more active now. And far less robotic than before. Pretty neat they were able to kinda humanize the goalies, without ruining the challenge of scoring.

before this tuner, bothh the user and the cpu will get some cheap rebound goals, because the goalies play so far out on shots.

the rebound goals scored now are far more legit imo.

also, ive scored 2 clean 5-hole goals on slot shots. it was possible before, but i think its even more possible now.

loving this tuner set a lot.
Agreed, I'm also scoring alot more on clean point shots as well. Blasted one in with Chara today and I do mean blasted on an unscreened Giggy (still on the ducks in my BAGM) that went stick side high.

Liking the new tuner set muchly.

I scored with a slapshot in a shootout with O'Brien for the Canucks against Huet. Was pretty sweet, just went balls out and ended up finding the corner. Sounds stupid probably, but I've seen Chara do this in shootouts so it's not completely unrealistic.

Played an offline game and lost in OT to a perfectly screened shot from the point. I thought the puck went through his pad but upon replay not only was I completely wrong, but the puck bounced off his pad from a half butterfly save (he got a little piece of it but not enough) he also looked around the player screening him who was perfectly screening him. He just couldn't see the shot in time and reacted late. So realistic. I really should have saved that replay - d'oh!

I know some of you like online play, but for me personally I have trouble playing online when the offline games are this much fun.

Yes, you are and I think we've met at a middle ground. Agility is probably a better way to describe what we're talking about. I focus on acceleration because we can't tune global skating agility with a slider and lowering acceleration accomplishes some of the same objectives.

With NHL09, I took the time to edit agility (-15 or -20, don't remember exactly) for all players on PIT & DET last year during the Finals before playing out the series on my own. It played rather well and I was able to raise acceleration a notch from where I usually had it.

So maybe the answer would be including an "agility" slider in NHL11 and tuning it down from the start. I wonder if what we're talking about is something that could be done with the current tuner set system? I don't expect anymore changes, but you never know...

It's not unrealistic at all. I've seen lots of guys take slappers during the shootout and even on regular penalty shots. That was Brian Rolston's go-to move for a while.
