i'd rather see a few too many clean slapshots go in vs. being stopped 99.9% of the time , personally. but maybe they are a bit too easy at the moment. it just sucks when every goal is a messy rebound or deflection (if not that, a deke or one timer) but its nice to score on a clean wrist or slap shot once in a while! especially from prime shooting position.

Agreed it seems straight up unscreened slapshots do go in a little bit too much, but I usually just tweak down the slap shot accuracy for myself, the cpu, or both, or adjust the goalie settings. At this point it may be a necessary evil to keep the offense and goal scoring varied... also it seems there is better goalie separation and the higher rated goalies have better positioning and reaction now compared to the lower ranked ones..

Unfortunately, this is exactly how 90% of real NHL goals are scored these days.
That's why I'd like my hockey video games to be a bit unrealistic in letting the user score more clean goals.

yeah but it's a defence problem, not a goaltending problem.. The D needs to be better, not the goalies. in the real NHL if players had clear shots in prime shooting positions they would score more often, but the defence doesn't' allow it.. i still prefer more realistic (IE: more human) goalies, even if it means high scoring affairs in some or even most cases!

Trust me, you're preaching to the choir.
A lot of us here would like to see this fixed. Like you said, most top 6 forwards will bury chances when they have room and space.
But in today's NHL, everyone's so good defensively, getting those chances are extremely tough.
I hope for NHL11 they can do this.
However, a majority of people who buy this game are not diehard hockey fans. And I have a feeling they'll get pretty ticked off if they only get a handful of scoring opportunities a game.
I mean, in last nights Wings-Blues matchup, there was only 1 scoring chance recorded in the first 7 minutes. Can you believe that? And yet that's the NHL today.
And I doubt Joe Fratboy is going to like playing a hockey game where he has to work his butt off for 7 minutes to get one scoring chance.

So basically, it's a balancing act that EA is trying to tread lightly. They want to make it realistic, but at the same time, 100% realism doesn't always sell to the masses.

I really don't think you can say "most" goals in the league are deflections/rebounds, let alone 90 percent. There are still a huge number of clean slapshots and clean wristers/snapshots that occur these days.

I actually think the goals in real life are balanced .

just from tonights game flyers at the devils.

first goal devils scored was a wrister that went thru 5 hole
their 2nd goal was a deflection off a flyer

all 3 flyers goals were wrist shots top shelf that beat brodeur clean.
