Well, online seems to have an obvious glitch right now. Is it cool to point it out here or I'm not sure how to address it. Happened 3 times in a row in two games straight now.

The obvious toe drag still works too.

edit - played three games and never been so frustrated. Good lord. The speed is insane.

One question if I may -- does increasing shot accuracy have any effect on the AI shooting tendencies? In other words, would higher accuracy possibly mean more shots by the CPU, or is this strictly aimed at opening up goal-scoring?
OTP/ EASHL speed does need to be tonned down a bit. Going up and down the ice happens too quickly for my taste.

Hmmm, we played four EASHL games last night and I felt the skating was relatively well balanced. I can see the drop in acceleration when you stop/start and I didn't feel the overall speed was too much faster. And I'm not one for ultra-fast gameplay, as I play offline at 1/0 (although I might have to bump ACC up to 1 now).

All in all, things feel pretty good right now. If I HAD to pick one thing to change, I'd probably go for raising pass interceptions. We got away with some rather lucky passes through traffic around the net for easy tap-ins. Don't think it was tuned, but perhaps the higher pass speed and reduced pass error make it a little easier to get the puck through traffic...

I recently switched from a old 27" CRT Sony TV to a 50" Samsung Plasma, and it might be the TVs. When I switched from the CRT to the plasma, I could notice my guys 93 speed and 86 acceleration more than on the CRT. The overall speed was faster than on the CRT, so thats probably why I thought it was the game, when it was my TV. So I'll have to take back my post above, newer TV=better gameplay :P Plus it's in 1080p HD now, not 480p

The thing is though, the online game didn't need to get ANY faster. It was already too fast (top speed-wise). I feel that acceleration isn't a big problem online; it's top speed.

I really wish there was a way to play people who are near the attribute levels/boost levels your team is at. I feel the biggest online downfall in NHL 10 is for people who don't have time to grind their way to a stacked player and are forced to play against some dude with 90 speed and shot power and accuracy, balance, etc. I shouldn't have to shell out money to get my guy up to a level that can compete with other boosted players. There should be some sort of way to hook up two teams with similar attribute levels. Not sure how it can be done, but the boost thing really makes the playing field unequal, IMO. This is why I've played quite a bit more offline this year vs. '09. '09 wasn't as bad.

While I agree that the top speed does not need to be faster, I have to strongly disagree on acceleration. I think acceleration (and agility as well) is what leads to frantic/up & down/waterbug gameplay. I have no "hard data" to back this up, but my eyes tell me that players in NHL10 spend considerably more time at their top speed compared to real hockey. IMO, that is a function of how quickly a player can reach top speed. In fact, I hypothesize that slightly increasing top skating speed (I believe J said "slight increase") while lowering acceleration could in fact "make the game play slower".

Anyways, one thing I saw a few times last night that was very encouraging to me was a player going in a straight line at full-speed having an advantage over a player changing direction. Think breakout pass to a streaking forward coming up on a d-man who was holding the red or blueline. Previously, the d-man could quickly get to full-speed, mostly negating what should have been a sizable advantage to the attacker. Last night I saw several instances where the defender could not recover as quickly, which for me, is something that was sorely needed.

This shift starts to put more of an emphasis on positioning/angles/gap control -- real hockey -- not just what a player is rated or unbelievable stick skills. That stuff mattered before, but if you can't out-skate as many mistakes, it'll matter more now...

PS - It made sense to me!
