Re: NCAA Basketball 10 Available, Post Impressions Here

My Gamefly copy came in on Saturday and after a few games I like it. It is definately improved over last years version. The gamespeed seemed a touch quick at first but after lowering it it plays better for me. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT is that I cant simulate to the end of the game if I am being blown out buy 20 points with 5 minutes to go. Why?????? They have it in NCAA and MADDEN.. not sure if its in Live. You would think a simple thing like this could be in.

Maybe that has something to do with it.
yeah, I have my defense post strength at 100, I dropped cpu post hands to 0 for turnovers, play tight d matchup's with my bigs and they still pop most shots. Certainly not a game killer, but I think EA is going to have to help us on this one, not sure sliders get it done.

I am trying to overlook it, but the issue is glaring and needs to be patched ASAP IMO. There are some nice clips ehh and others have posted in the video thread, but the CPU won't run offense like a human does. Makes it a bit boring and predictable, and you can also time and block the shots as was previously mentioned. If you don't try to block it, it is likely to go in although maybe sliders can fix that.

I was watching a CPU vs CPU game and chose Northwestern as one of the teams. They have a Lamar Odom type lanky guy and to see him run around off screens and baseline was a thing of beauty. Offensive gameplay is the best part of the game outside of the CPU post issue, and is the reason it is liked by many despite being bare boned.

Some of the CPU-CPU gameplay was a joke as at times the guards would get the ball in the post and immediately turn and chuck getting it right back in their face. Sometimes another guy would get the board in the post and go right back up also getting swatted.

Are you guys playing on Varsity or All Conference? I suck - but no sliders can present a challenge on Varsity. However - on All Conference- the CPU is much more aggressive and I see a mix of offense. The do back door cuts, punish me when I double team and generally move the ball around like they should. It's not perfect gameplay - but some of the issues you guys are mentioning I am not even noticing.

If I could have the game on AA while the CPU has the ball and on Varsity when I had the ball I'd be heaven.

I got the game Friday and I had a chance to play just a few games over the weekend (dern kids had me tied up all weekend!). But I played enough to gather some initial thoughts about the game...

As many have already stated, NCAA Basketball 10 is FUN. The presentation is the best I've seen in an EA game, ever. It's right up there with NFL 2k5 and just a notch below NBA 2K10 (due to the announcers). The game definitely looks better than last year. There are noticibly more animations and the ball/rim physics have improved greatly. The Motion offense feature is not a typical EA gimick...its actually as good as advertised and a ton of fun to use. I have always loved to run plays in basketball plays and this is just much more cleaner and easier to use.

I am loving the fact that it is much tougher to drive in the lane this year.
Frustrated at first using my beloved JU Dolphins playing an exhibition match up against Syracuse...needless to say, I got hammered, but that's not why I got frustrated.
Every single time I drove inside the lane with my star PG (Ben Smith), I would either get "bumped" into an off balance shot or turnover. It seemed I could never get that clean layup animation. But then I tried using Villanova against the same Syracuse Orange team and Scottie Reynolds pretty much had his way penetrating in the lane. His crossovers and spins were MUCH more effective (as it should be). I still got "bumped" into off balance shots quite a bit, but I was able to get a clean uninterruped layup animation from time to time as well.

This lead me to the conclusion that I just have to play smarter i.e back it out when the lane is too clogged up and don't just try and dribble penetrate every single time. This fact and the fluidity in which you run these new offenses will definitely put more emphasis in recruting IMO. Depending on which offense you run, whether that be 3 out 2 in or dribble drive offense, etc...you will have to be sure to recruit the right player for that offense. If you are going to be running the dribble drive offense, you better recruit some penetrators and shooters to kick out to!

I am also liking the freestyle passing although it seems I have a ways to go before I master it. I still have to get used to it but I like the concept.

The controls don't seem to be as tight as they were last year. I seem to get pulled into a canned animation from time to time that I can't get out of (like the one on the baseline where your guy is desperately trying to stay inbounds while trying to keep his dribble and it always results in a steal...I should be able to pass out of that animation). Also, I really wish there was a defensive crouch button! Didn't MM08 have the defensive lock-down feature? I want that back! The CPU still does not seem to recognize when they have a noticable mismatch when they are on the offensive end. However, I do like the fact that the CPU mixes up their offense. They don't seem to run a play every single time down the floor. They have their set plays but they will simply drive and dish if the lane opens up.

All in all, I am really enjoying this game. I really think it could be hard to get into this game if you don't play it enough. This is one of those games where the more you play it, the more you will get into it and enjoy it for what it is (a fun college basketball game).

I've settled on AC for now. Roster updates from os, dynamic updates, and possible patch will tell us a lot. What's great about the game is I've played on all levels and all give you good games. None is that easy. The only thing about AA is their post game and drives to hoop are tough to match

Pulled an upset against #2 Purdue in dynasty using Eastern Illinois. One thing it got me going "aww man" though is, the game was really close (i won by 1, after playing it like 7 times before winning), Gus Johnson's commentary is, should i say "has little or no emotion." LOL

I was kinda expecting he'll go nuts on every clutch shots. hihi. But hey, upset over a number 2 team. YEAH!
