Re: NCAA Basketball 10 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions (360)

I'll be the first to admit when Im wrong or off on my assessments.....I went back to play another game this morning for a fresh new feel. And I will say this, I enjoyed it more today than I did last night but most of my observations remain the same perhaps not as negative.

I originally thought players look a little too bulky, Im not so sure about this anymore...perhaps its more an issue of them just not being as detailed and well animated as NBA Live's and 2K10's models...so it sticks out more.

The flow, pace and movement of the game is good....but I think the inside game is still underdeveloped and overly simplified. There's not enough battling under the boards and messy play. I'd like to see some more fighting, reaching and grabbing for loose balls down low and also having the players struggling more to try and put back missed layups.

Also the player's range of motion and animations dont seem as tight and varied as the pro games. There's still a feel the players lack that rubbery college kid range of motion that you'd like to see in these pre pro athletes. This could have used a wider range of fluid integration with controls, audio and motion capturing.

I dont know, The gameplay engine just feels a little dated in comparison to what is already out there for the pro games

And the lighting and textures are just mediocre

I like the game but I am not loving it and I am not feeling that sensation of ...."Yeah, EA has taken this sports game to the NEXT LEVEL!"

Maybe Im just spoiled and hold every sports game to the highest polished standards of MLB the Show

To me the game feels so,...so year 2005ish for lack of a better overall description. but I still like the CBS overlays and presentation.

I just see it for what it is and always will be. the college experience is VERY tough to bring to a video game if you try to make it SIm or overly realistic. Professional sports you can do that with because the licensing is there and in place. in collegiate sports it's just not so you deal with the ellusion so much. This years ellusion is great. CBS presentation makes the game feel real. Everything else just plays UP to that and its very apparent. The Live engine is in full force here but tweaked to be more of a team play style. So essentially if you can get the teams playing style right instead of the individuality which you can not then youre good to go. i feel thats where the dev team did very good with this game this year. last year the final product stunk. What i saw in pre build last year of ncaa 09 was fair. this year with the demo i can honestly say that something just finally clicked withe decision making over there...

Great move great game and great playing

Re: NCAA Basketball 10 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions (360)

Presentation is as good as advertised. The pumping CBS logo before the game gives me goosebumps. The CBS Logos and overlays look dead on.

I played 3 games, 2 as Duke mainly to see how UNC ran their offense and both times I came away unimpressed. Anyone who has seen UNC under Roy knows they get up and down. Not one time did they even attempt a fast break.

I tried some of the same things that people have been complaining about Live and they were in the game:
  • The ability to pull off every move with any player regardless of skill. I could do the same crossovers with Nolan Smith that I could do with Plumlee.
  • Totally leaving any player besides the PG will result in the CPU not finding the open man. The PG was the only player that would be aggressive with the ball when not guarded.
  • Fouls are hit or miss. I would some get some very good calls on body-to-body contact and then not get a whistle on the exact same animation the next 3 times.
  • Seemed to me like there was no difference in shooting with bigs and guards. Bigs shooting form looks just like guards.
  • Still too many swishes.
  • The animation where you're driving the lane and take 2 steps, get contact, but before the contact your player regathers themselves and takes an extra step, is there. I HATE this animation with a passion.
  • Animations in general are too robotic. It's similar to Live in the sense that once you get better at Live you will see less unnatural animations but until you do you see some weird things. Animations around the basket as a whole are very odd.
Visually and graphically the game looks beautiful. I hated EA's player models in the past but I think they did a good job with NCAA. The court is a little too dark but that can always be tweaked.

Commentary is bad. There are too many lulls and Gus & Raff don't sound good together. I'm a Gus Johnson fan in real life but some of his lines in NCAA are way too overboard for a normal game.

After not being blown away by the gameplay this game is a "wait and see" for me right now. Hopefully we'll get good dynasty impressions or I can find a Blockbuster that has a copy to rent.

KGX, you couldnt really have expected the Commentay to be top notch could you? Remember, there are 2 different announcing teams. Personally I would rather have 2 decent teams than 1 great team.

LOL....Kgx, you found the simple word to describe the player movement that I was looking for....ROBOTIC. Yes that's the problem I have with the feel of this game

For me, the foundation of any game is how it feel's to play. I dont like the stiff, 'robotic' motion captured movements of the players. I think I would have enjoyed the game so much more if EA had given the college kids a more exaggerated rubbery motion to their movements.

Watch a college game, the first thing you notice right away is the oversized shorts and tops flowing as they dance and bounce all around the court. Point Guards have that 'boo-yeah' (?) low center of gravity as they shake and bake down the court. Players make their cuts, Big Man fight for position down low, balls carombing off the rim, off players hands, off the boards, its frantic, crazy, its sloppy....its the poetic artistry of college basketball....and I just dont really "feel" all that in the gameplay or the controls.

Yes... Robotic....is a good way to summarize the play

I do agree with Tomba tho....they did force more of a spread out team play aspect of the game rather than the iso superstar feel of the Pro game. I just think it should have went much further in capturing that college feel to its gameplay and controls. Especially since CH 2K8 already captured much of this several years ago

Same here.

I loved the demo. I'm not a huge stickler when it comes to perfect game play, so I had no problem with it. To be honest I'm ready for the retail version now.
