And I purchased a PS3 specifically to play my (used to be) favorite game, NCAA Football. Every year I curse the video game gods for coming up with Next Gen.
Where did I say it was acceptable?

I'm glad I will be away for a few days and won't be able to pick up NCAA until the weekend after it releases. I might be able to hold off on buying it.

I'm not surprised, no one who's ever tried to edit the rosters would be.

Generally, you start with a blank slate (no names), edit a few teams, and save as a new file. You then do a few more teams, and save another new file with a slightly different name (instead of overwriting the previous save). The first save might be "roster1", the next would be "roster2", etc.. As you progress you can delete the oldest files, but you always want to have at least two (a base save and the one you are updating). That way you always have something to fall back on if something disastrous happens (i.e. the game crashes).

I'm guessing that the person(s) doing this year's roster file either mislabled a file or misread the file name and loaded the wrong one. If so it's inexcusable, but hopefully the situation can be rectified before the game ships. If it isn't, I will be passing on NCAA for the first time ever (I go back to the Bill Walsh Sega Genesis days).

Still not seeing how 09 was trash. 08 on Now Gen, yeah. Aside from pursuit angles, defensive line issues, sliders, and certain recruiting quirks, I thought it was a great game. Now this pain in the $$ issue aside, I believe they have worked on the pursuit angles, fixed the defensive line pressure, tweaked recruiting again, and made improvements to ai. Don't know about the sliders because I don't have the game yet. I guess if you think it's trash, why buy it every year? This new roster headache is bad, yes. Potentially very bad for some. But I disagree that it is part of another year of trash. Now, stupid wide receivers that can't seem to get their acts together and stay out of trouble, the media's constant man-love fest with Timmy T, that's all trashy, but I digress....

Also, Russ is trying to fix this, but I am positive it's not his fault. Like any big software company, I'm sure EA has an SCM group overseeing the software releases. I work for a large software company, and things can get screwed up BIG TIME with SCM. It's a shame no one caught it after it went through SCM, but in all honesty, it's not too surprising to me whatsoever.
Yeah, and really, if it's the case that the wrong roster file was built on the "final" disc, is it that hard to believe that they could miss the fact that they're not completely accurate, specifically with fake players? I mean, especially if it's a process you've done for years, you just don't expect this to happen. It's extremely disappointing and really quite unacceptable this would happen, but in reality, it is not hard to believe it could happen. I'll tell you what though, if they're unable to make this happen, some ish is gonna go down with the team I'm sure.

Seeing as though this is a professional organization, my guess would be that they use version control on stuff like this. As he saves it, the system automatically creates a new version, and saves all of the previous versions.

Someone that made the build of the game (in the SCM group), probably just pulled the wrong version. This wouldn't be the first time this has happened, or the last. It happens VERY frequently, actually. When you have multiple parts to a project, all with different versions, and different baselines, this kind of stuff is common. It's just too bad no one caught it.

Re: NCAA Football 10 Rosters Issue

My guess is that before mentioned roster guy was trying so hard to please the people on here who nit pick at the small stuff by making sure that QB #15 on their favorite college team had the same hairy mole on the right cheek of his buttocks. That just naturally he forgot to put some people in, take some out, or just created some people for fun.

Its easy to have forgotten when you have to make sure WR#19 have the same gold tooth and scar over his left eye.

All jokes aside...I'll try and be optimistic about it all since the sky is falling for everyone else.

How about this as a temporary fix while we wait

Would we be able to use teambuilder to edit the ratings and names of players on our favorite NCAA team and send it to someone who would keep track and then put it in the game in a roster file? Sure it might be a little biased for everyone's fave team but it might end up being better than the solution the developers for EA (might) come up with. And i mean, we're not really doing anything right now except wait. Anyone else on board with this idea? Cause Syracuse's rosters are the exact same as last year, and they haven't changed anyones positions or added any of our (horrible) freshmen yet.

Please explain. Who is missing? What ratings are wrong? I haven't had time to look though it. What have you noticed about the Maize & Blue?
