Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: A Deeper Look Into Pass Blocking

Good stuff for Maddden o-line blocking but I kind of disagree with the 2k critique. I have seen de peel off their blocks and make sacks. I love o line play and I play with gold/silver/ and bronze o linemen and I observed more randomness than here is the long animation.

2K has it right. You can sprint to a spot but to throw with accuracy you have to set your feet. Stabler/Cunningham/Elway and a few others can make throws while you are rolling out with accuracy but they also lose distance on how far they can throw.
Last gen Madden had it right too. The greatest Madden game ever--Madden 2003 had the sprint button as a icon for the WR and it was difficult to roll and chuck or go back 20 yards and throw.

Then came the abysmal called Madden 2004.

Re: Madden NFL 10 Blog: A Deeper Look Into Pass Blocking

I liked the footage of the DE/OT engagement. I love APF's system, but this one looks even more active and dynamic than that. The individual engagements are looking really nice and are a great extension of the Pro-Tak tech.!

What I really want to see, though, is evidence that the whole works as well as the sum of the parts. We're getting very partial views of passing "pockets" thus far. What 2K was able to do was create the whole entity with realistic integrity, breakdown, and interaction every single play. I want to see whether or not Madden can create an entire, dynamic, and realistic pocket with this tech, or whether it's just going to give us very pretty and very dynamic individual shots.

Not that those two options are mutually exclusive, but I wonder if OL will have the awareness to double and pass off, backs to help out, and the OL as a whole to form, or attempt to form, a genuine pocket.

Getting closer to release I'd love Ian to do a blog and show how the cheesy maneuvers are non-existent now, if they really are. Showing maybe the qb sneak being ineffective, full back dive, roll and chuck ect.

^^ lol, is that ice la fox?

i'm loving the way the linemen are using their hands, looks great.
but i also hope they fix the way the cpu defensive line always creates more pressure than your offensive line. even if you had the 1980s eagles defensive line, you would always have to blitz to get pressure while the cpu can use the 2008 chiefs and instantly take you down with a 4 man rush

Of course, nothing would be wrong with this if they couldn't virtually do it at will. The bottom line is that as long as the QB turn, move, and sprint faster than the DE gets off his animations.......roll and chuck will live to see another day.
Nah, I think it will; the reason the roll and chuck exists is because essentially, QBs(in madden 09) are able to throw the ball as deep and accurate while sprinting, as they can while stationary(with their feet set). The fact that DE's also failed stay on the oustide shoulder of the OT and attempt to get up field contributed to the success of the rolling chuck; ultimately the super human throwing ability or lack of accuracy penalties while sprinting are what allowed the "roll and chuck" to thrive.
