Game looks good. The movement looks a lot better than previous years.

It's off topic, but I wish the last steps of the QB dropbacks were more fluid. You only see glimpses in the M10 vid that Ian posted, but I can see the awkwardness in it . I just wish they were more fluid like those in this youtube clip (included the link in case the vid doesn't show up; my embedding skills could use work):
Upon further review, looks as if the QB dropback was possibly interrupted by the user. That could've contributed to it looking so jerky. It didn't look as 'jerked' in the first gameplay trailer or the other vids . Could probably still use some smoothing out in the future, but not as bad as previously thought.

offensive linemen are supposed to look straight at the beginning of the kick slide because his first assignment is to make sure there is no inside pressure. If there is no pressure from the inside when he is done with his initial steps then he turns out and faces the d-end.

I loved this blog. But Ian needs to state whether this stuff is in NCAA or not. It's killing me every time I read these blogs and wonder this stuff.

Do you mean 12 times? (sorry, I just couldn't resist.)

hahaha.. got me again..
but listen that was against a backup LT with no playing experience, and for some ridiculous reason Andy Reid kept leaving him on an island against whoever was lined up over there. that shouldn't happen against most LT's.. not sayin, just sayin..

as it is, I get sacked waaaay too much in madden. I always try to play from within the pocket and I'm always giving up cheap sacks that others don't because they just drop back 10 yards. I'm hoping those days are over.

Basically what I am concerned about or looking to see if you can address is how will the other defenders react to the play. I have been very impressed by the way 2K8 handled this problem - specifically the way other defenders would combine with the QB's own momentum to make you essentially choose to run or pass but not retain the option to do either - at least not as long as you can have both options in Madden. I think previous Madden releases have used a speed cheat to control this - making almost any QB lame and slow out of the pocket, instead of having different defensive logic. Is that still how this is controlled?

In Madden games, once the QB gets to the outside, a skilled player can buy an inordinate amount of time to throw and can hold the ball waaaaaaay longer than a similar situation in 2K8 (or 2K5). This also leads to unrealistic rushing gains when the Madden defenders in zone defense fail to react to a running QB until he has past the LOS....

Other things that looked good:

I will see if I can answer some of your concerns, well one at least. I purposely waited until the T and DE engaged and ran outside in the CD build. From the shotgun I got outside a lot more than I liked. That's why I asked for it to set up faster. Ideally I'd like the DE/OLB's to be 1 step away from the QB as he bounces off his heels in his drop. They have to get up the field. I don't mind the QB stepping under and in that lane. The Ends did get off their blocks pretty quick once they saw me going outside so I did not have too much time. Most of the plays I had to throw on the run and they were all overthrown passes.

As far as Troy Smith I wouldn't worry about him at all, especially on deep passes Arm was pretty damn weak in the CD build.
