I just want a stable game that works as described.

After several years of Madden disappointment, Tiger Wood releases that seem to offer less and less each year, and botched MLB2K games, I've gotten off the carousel. I have chosen not to be a victim of the annual development cycle.

No more Madden holidays, no more buying any sports game on the first day of release. I buy a sports game only when it reaches a point of stability and value that makes it worth buying -- and my purchase that year does not obligate me to buy the next version of the same product next year. The fact that this year's version of NBA2k is, post-patch, finally good enough doesn't mean that I'm buying the version coming out this fall. I am not obligated to spend $60 for marginal upgrades. It also means that as a die-hard baseball fan with a 360, I have no baseball game, because, well, don't get me started on the MLB2k series. It also means that I'm a long way from purchasing Madden 09, and if they never get this release right, even further away from purchasing 2010.

Again, I'm a realist. The annual development cycle works for EA -- they make a ton of money on repeat business for marginal upgrades and increasingly unstable releases. I'm just not obligated to be a victim of that cycle. And as a guy who is a serious sports gamer, I don't think I'm doing my hobby a favor by buying into the industry's business practices.

[Funny because I said the same thing last year which is how I convinced myself to buy this years version. "People" complain bc they expect to pay for a functional game. The franchise mode is worse than it was last year and they have failed to address the problem. I can't get past preseason in Season 4.]


I have been as critical as anyone these last 2 weeks and haven't played Madden since Wednesday the 13th because I ONLY play Franchise Mode and with the Progression/editing glitches it was unplayable to me.

I am very happy and impressed these issues have been resolved along with the many others listed. I don't understand how people can complain about what wasn't in the patch, they did a GREAT deal of work for 2 weeks time. I can't wait to start playing again when this patch drops.

I understand that there's other issues that some people still need to be addressed BUT I hope they appreciate what we ARE getting. This is not the usual efficiency and customer service we are used to getting from EA. I for one greatly appreciate this new more transparent and professional way they are doing business. They are listening to the consumer and working to perfect the product. Will they get to everything this year? Maybe not but I have a MUCH better feeling about reserving Madden 2010 (which I'm sure will have a much improved Franchise Mode).

Good for you. You have every right to refuse to buy the product if you arent satisfied with it. That was never the point of my statement. My statement was a response to people who complain the release date and ask why it couldnt have been pushed back. I gave them the reason why the game couldnt be pushed back.

And I could care less if every game has glitches. Maybe if video game consumers stopped buying games that didn't deliver what they promised they'd figure out how to create relatively glitch free games. If Madden can patch all of these problems within 2 weeks, they could've fixed these problems prior to release. Not only did EA sell a broken game, they KNOWINGLY sold a broken game so they could keep their release date. Didn't patch #1 come out on release day? As a consumer, that's not OK with me. I returned '08 for this exact reason.

But my main thing about this thread is the excessive gratitutde. I don't get it. Folks are acting like EA did them a favor. All EA did was fix the broken game they sold. This is the attitude that will cause the problem to continue. EA should be thanking their customers for willingly putting up with these issues.

I do not doubt that. As active as he's been, I can imagine how good '10 will be. He's acknolwledge my 2 main issues with the game. If the blocking interaction and WR/DB interaction are addressed like he promised, it will be the 90s all over again for me. I'm looking forward to him living up to the quotes in my sig.
