I apologize for that Adam..I didn't want to imply that you "pinky sweared" to us in any forums. I wasn't actually referring to anyone in particular. I should have used a word like, expectation, anticipated, etc..instead of promise!!

No prob... it just becomes like a game of telephone. I say "estimate" then someone says I "expect it" and then people interpret that as it "will" which someone else will assume means "promise."

And as you can see with the certification process and its headaches playing itself out in this thread, we just can't make promises. And with hard street dates, we have to finish the game with enough lead time to handle being bounced in certification a couple times. That's why the game takes so long between final and release day.

As much hate as our QA department gets around here lately, they boast one of the lowest submission rates in the industry.. somewhere around 2 (this includes EA certification in addition to Sony and MS, which is where most bounces happen). On last gen, that number got as low as a mind boggling 1.2 in like 2004 or so.

I also don't understand the facination or the obsession over getting the first patch. Once you do, you can begin playing (with the right names, HOORAY) a completely flawed game.

Patch 1... Patch 2... Patch n...

There shouldn't be any patches. Updates maybe, like roster changes, uniform changes... things that weren't in EA's control or in their research in Jan-July 08 (and a lot of that should've been).

But we're talking about major bugs, major gameplay issues... all of this should've been fleshed out in development. I have to super-sim every kickoff or punt to get any realism out of those plays. That's inexcusable. Let alone the fact that this game doesn't begin to touch all of the capabilities that we should have playing on 3rd gen systems. It doesn't even have all of the freaken stadiums for the Bowl Subdivision.

Forget patches... develop a freaken game that works.

For roster editors like me this patch does save the game. It means that I can edit until the second patch comes out and edit safely without worrying about the fiu bug. Now I'll be playing madden until both patches come out.

I gotcha RAZR and i didnt mean to offend anyone, i just think at ths point, complaining doesnt make it come out faster. I wish it was out for you PS3'ers so you could get going on rosters. Hang in there. Patch 2 is coming soon too (i hope).

And Adam, dont pay attention to the minority, we know the patch goes through a ton of different tests and no one can guarantee a date, just sucks that it was held back. I think it wouldve been better ahd the 360 patch been held back, just makes people think the 360 gets special treatment.....

i agree that the complaining is pointless, it's always pointless.

No it isn't. We take the complaints seriously. That's how we learn and grow as a development team. Every year we criticize ourselves and take steps to improve that, but it isn't nearly as objective as customer feedback.

The only pointless stuff is the complaints that aren't posted.. ummm.. gracefully. At some point you just stop reading them. I've gotten good at checking the name on the post before reading it.
