NASCAR 2011 Hands On

http://www.racesimcentral.com/news/2...011/#more-5474

few things of concern;

-"I started my career without changing any difficulty or handling options and breezed through qualifying with a staggering lap time. This domination continued in the first race where after we hit the starting line, I never saw my opponents again. In addition to this domination, with the default handling I never even had to brake."

-The less realistic elements come in the form of drafting. Cars in front of you stream giant animated wind lines that if you drive in them will fill your draft meter...You can turn this animation off, but the use of the meter as a consistent way to propel your way forward felt like a game trick. IN addition, whichever racer is closest to you in the standings gets labeled as your Rival and a giant icon over their car is present in all races."

You should have added the next line:

-"Because there’s nothing fun about breezing through a racing title under such circumstances, I flipped through the different handling options, from Rookie to Racer to Veteran to Pro and finally landed on Legend with all assists off. I upped the difficulty of the AI and my racing experience took a turn for the more realistic."

My biggest concerns for this game are:
- Pit stops
- AI Behaviour during the race

Nothing in that article overtly concerns me yet. Still looking forward to it.

Re: NASCAR 2011 Hands On

The fact that there is a big difference in realism according to the review between the low level and legend level of difficulty. I am still a bit concerned with the drafting and slingshots, but hopefully they are not as effective on legend. Also like the fact that he pointed out if you drift into another car on the high level with assist turned off that you will get into trouble and cause a wreck. From some of the videos it seemed as though you were able to make a good bit of contact without any consequences. Looking forward to this game hopefully will be in my hands friday or saturday

Re: NASCAR 2011 Hands On

There was a lot more positives overall though, but looks like a lot of tuning will be needed to get the best from it.
They do say it's geared more towards the arcade side rather than sim, which isn't what the developers would have us believe. I know it was never going to be NR2003, but thought it was swinging towards sim rather than arcade.

Still looking forward to it, but will be waiting for impressions on here before I buy.

Yea, why would he leave that quote out? He says he's worried about the level of difficulty but he doesn't acknowledge that the game is much more realistic on higher difficulties.
