Gran Turismo 5 Review

In December 1997, Polyphony Digital released the first entry of the GT series for the original Playstation. Since then, GT has been considered a marquee title for not only the PS1, but the PS2,and now the PS3. The lead producer of the series, Kazunori Yamauchi, is well known for his pursuit of perfection, and his direction for the fifth installment was no different. Kazunori’s attention to detail in the series and strong desire to create the Holy Grail of racing titles is both a blessing and a curse. While his motives are admirable, his aspirations have their drawbacks as GT5 was delayed multiple times. Gran Turismo 5 was in development for over five years, and in a lot of ways the extended development cycle has paid off, but the game still stops just short of the finish line.

Man, I'm torn! I want it to have it in my collection but I don't want it to sit there collecting dust. Thanks for the honest POV, Bob.

I really enjoyed GT PSP but primarily because I could fire it up anywhere without having to hook up a wheel or tie up a TV at the house. I grinded it out and collected a ton of cars just for GT 5.

Update: Literally just 5 mins. after reading your review, I checked to see if Gamestop had a used copy and they did! I've picked it up and will be online testing with you tonight. After our Darlington race on NR2003, of course! My wife is going to shoot me for using the TV downstairs!

Very fair review. I am going to get the game at some point, but I will wait for it to go on sale as I'm definitely not a hardcore racing fan/gamer.

I'll probably just dust off GT3 and maybe get GT for the PSP to tide me over.

Kind of strange to see no mention of damage, but a solid review nonetheless.

I'm having fun with it, probably because it is such a change of pace for me (other than Burnout Paradise, I haven't played a racing game in a while, and I haven't played any of the previous Gran Turismo titles).

While I think the score is probably on point i think the review was a tad soft. For instance standard cars he says "The standard cars have no dashboard cam, and the level of detail just seems a bit on the drab side". Drab side? Dude I got standard cars that look downright terrible for an xbox1/ps2 game. Example: The Berlinetta (sp) is just atrocious. He says "Great as a simulator, good as a racer." I think more like Great as a simulator ,average as a racer unless against a human opponent.
