No one is going to be able to sway your mind into picking up one game over another. NFS is an action packed arcade racer while GT5 is nothing like that nor is it aiming for that.

Dull compared to NFS ? Seriously .No Offense but this game graphically blows NFS series out of the water.Game play is a lot different , it is more simulation it is going to take more skill and precision to drive or even drift . I would suggest to rent it first .Specially if it is your first GT game . Good luck .

This is a fun game, but the sense of speed is really lacking compared to NFS.

You gotta understand the NFS series focus; they aim (even with Shift) is to create an exaggerated racing experience. I would say the Gran Turismo series vs the NFS series is comparable to the NBA 2K series vs the NBA Live/Elite series. Both games emulate the same thing (racing and basketball) just with opposite focuses (realism and more skill required vs pick up and play)

I typically rent from Blockbuster since it's close, but I'm thinking about getting a Gamefly subscription. It's basically the Netflix of video games.

I haven't played the retail of NFS: Shift, but based on the demo and the little bit of GT5 that I've played thus far, I would say the actually racing is NFS:Shift is better just because the sense of speed is greater and therefore more intense. GT5 is just a way deeper game though. Both games are different enough that they can both coexist in a gamer's library though.
