Re: The Transfer Thread

I think they get worn down by unfavorable schedules. Although on the flip side you could say that with all the money they generate they can afford to have deeper squads

Anyway, something I haven't really considered much lately due to being overly happy with Spurs' performance this (and last) season, is that the quality of English top teams isn't really too much to brag about it seems. We'll see next year how they all fare in CL, but I fear not only Spurs will get mopped off the stadium against one of the top clubs from Germany, Spain and even Italy.

Liverpool didn't have European football to worry about, neither did Chelsea. Can't complain about Chelsea's league performance, though, but Liverpool without an extra tournament to worry about... that's pretty weak.

So if English clubs are going to tempt top talent to move there, they must pay up big time in terms of salary I think... and Spurs has made it clear they won't.
Liverpool made money in the transfer market last year. What that meant is that they got rid of a lot of dead weight knowing they wouldn't be playing in Europe. The only thing they should've realized is that Mane would be going to ACN and had a better plan there (*cough loaningMarkovic cough*). I'd argue that given the number of games missed by key players as the season went on, and lack of depth that 4th place wasn't sad at all. When they were at full strength for the first half of the season they were running through basically everyone. Chelsea was on a record-breaking run and Liverpool were right behind them. I guess you could call 4th a bit of a disappointment the way the season started, but the season is 38 matches, not 19. Now they're going to spend all that sweet TV money to fill holes and push some starters from a pretty darn good side into depth roles. I'm personally happy with the way things are progressing under Klopp.

Re: The Transfer Thread

If we're being honest, Pool, United and Chelsea are the three English clubs you could always count on to show up in Europe.

United has been pretty poor since SAF but Jose will get them into the knockouts for sure.

I'd say Spurs are the most worrisome just because their CL performances are already not that great, plus they won't be at WHL.

City is a wildcard but with Pep getting the players he needs hey should theoretically be fine.

Imo the biggest "if" in that group is Tottenham, but I could see all 5 teams making it through the group stage unless someone gets monstrously hosed (like United could get Juve, Barca, and Dortmund I think).

And to add if Spurs aren't going to spend on salary - the strongest indicator of success historically - they are just being dumb.

Re: The Transfer Thread

Anyone know how reliable Sky Sports is? Tweeted out Lukaku has reached an agreement with another club.

Re: The Transfer Thread

Sky Sports has unfortunately sunk to extremely low levels of reliability.

I mean, they own both a betting company and a news organization, if that tells you anything.

In this case, they are probably right, but everyone already knew Lukaku was leaving Everton. I doubt they have any actual information, but they know he's leaving and so they can say "breaking, Lukaku has reached an agreement with another club!!!!!111one", and even if Lukaku doesn't leave for another 2 months, they will still TECHNICALLY be right.

Sky is honestly pretty scummy these days.
