NHL 2016 Preseason Thread

While pre-season has been on for past number of days, the World Cup ending on Thursday now means there's only 1 thing to focus on in hockey, and that's pre-season. Teams will start getting their World Cup guys back now, if they haven't already.

Leafs wise, tonight could be the first(of hopefully MANY) games featuring Marner-Matthews-Nylander in the lineup!

This is what happens when the DoPS is a complete joke.
How many games did he get tossed out of last season for dangerous hits before he was finally suspended?
He should have been sat for his first ugly hit, and then given more time off as his hit-list grew.

This is the exact type of player that should be removed from the game.
Players like him, Torres, Tom Wilson, etc,... serve no other purpose than to injure and maim.

I really wish the NHL would institute a rule where a suspended player still takes up a roster spot.
Going into games with less than 18 skaters might make GM's think twice about signing a knuckle-dragger.

I think that's the only thing that will prevent moron's like Brian Burke from building pugnastic teams built on truculance.

Gudas will probably get off scott-free on this since Vessey changed his body position at the last minute, which resulted in the ugly hit.
The issue I have is that the NHL never calls boarding the way it's documented:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boarding_(ice_hockey)

Quote:
Boarding in ice hockey is a penalty called when an offending player pushes, trips or checks an opposing player violently into the boards of the hockey rink.
Whether Vessey changes direction or not, Gudas was going to smear him into the boards.
That is boarding.

How many times do you see this type of hit every game? Heck, every shift?
If the NHL would simply call the rules as they are written, there's probably a drastic decline in concussions and dirty checks.
Start calling this rule to the letter and up the anti by making it an auto 5-min major and game misconduct.

So the Hawks and Oilers are talking about a trade for Yakupov. The reports are AHL players to the Oilers and they will possibly retain salary.

Never change Pete. Never change.

Now that preseason is over.

Should we make a yahoo fantasy league, so we make conversations here a little bit more interesting. We all know that Doc will win it, but at least we can have some fun when he schools us.

Leafs make what I assume are their final cuts. Among the cuts include Laich and Greening.

This year should be an interesting one for sure. 12/22 guys on their opening night lineup last year aren't on team this year. And from looks of it, 13 players on team are 25 or younger.

Nah, I won't win the league. Just the conversations.
