Cap is set at $69 million. Is that a bit lower than expected?

Think it was rumored anywhere from 68-71 but I could be wrong about that.

Either way going to be an interesting offseason for the Blackhawks, already about $500,000 over the cap with resigning Smith, Raanta, and Morin today so someone is leaving and with Toews/Kane mega deals on the horizon Hawks have their work cut out for them trying to maintain a Cup level roster while paying them over 1/4 of the cap.

I think signing with NYI will send him to rehab at an accelerated rate.

Despite the trades that happened today to give us something to talk about, I still like my idea of having the lottery at the same time as the draft. Then as soon as your ball is drawn, you're on the clock. Make the GMs work! Would probably drive ratings higher as a bonus.

Re: NHL 2014 Off-Season Thread

As far as Kesler and Garrison go, Vancouver was screwed due to the NTC. I also think Benning was targeting a specific group of players rather than outright taking the best offer available. Bonino, Dorsett and Sbisa are all NHL players. If they make moves with their new found cap space, I think they will play themselves out of the McDavid race. If they get the 1st overall pick, he will likely be NHL ready as well.

Kesler deal is shades of the Nash deal, except Vancouver didn't get the Erixon level prospect thrown in.

Figures that the Buckeye would end up with Hockey al-Qaeda. What an awful day.

On the plus side, Kesler's departure fulfilled the prophecy.
