Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?

Alex Smith with the proviso that San Fran continues to run the offense they ran in the 2nd half of the year. Early last year they went with a very antiquated late '70s "we're gonna pound the rock" offense that didn't fit Smith's skill set at all. If they keep the offense dynamic then I see him having a better season then Leinart though I don't think Leinart will do as bad as everyone thinks he will.

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?

Alex Smith reason: san fran had only 1 solid lineman last year and 2 decent ones, they added 2 good ones in the 1st round and that will allow them to run the ball better which should open up the pass aand make it easier on alex.

Lienart has had 3 chances that he has failed at even with boldin and fitz. If he cant do it with those 2 what makes anyone think he can ever do it.

Re: Better season Alex Smith or Matt Lienart?

This is a good question.

I'll say Alex Smith has the better season because of how San Fran has built their team, along with their nice offseason this year and because I think San Francisco is the better team than Arizona this year, so I think Smith will succeed more than Leinart does. Also the targets he has to throw to are much improved from years past. Crabtree will have a full training camp under his belt and I don't see Vernon Davis falling off.

I do think people are underestimating Leinart though, or maybe I'm overestimating him, but I don't see how he couldn't at least somewhat succeed with the type of offense Arizona runs, having 2 solid RBs with Beanie and Hightower and being able to throw anything up to Fitz and know he'll more than often come down with the ball.

I'd guess Smith, but maybe Lienart has picked up something from Warner after being on the bench these last few years.
