Reggie Miller or Ray Allen?

Both players are in their prime. Who would you rather have as the focal point of your team? Who was the better player?

Re: Reggie Miller or Ray Allen?

This isn't even close, Ray Allen by several margins.

I'll add it to my running tally, this is probably the 20th time I've said it on these forums, but Miller was by far the most overrated player of the 1990's.

Re: Reggie Miller or Ray Allen?

I think Ray is one of the more underrated players of his time, and that Reggie may be a bit overrated due to his clutch moments.

Outside of AI, I don't think there was a better SG not named Kobe during that era. And I think Ray/AI were neck in neck.. but I'd give AI a slight edge due to his monster years of his prime.

But Ray was one of the most complete players and had all the athleticism.. and had that deadly three game. Definitely underrated IMO.

Re: Reggie Miller or Ray Allen?

I remember watching Ray light up the Pacers in 2001 dropping 36 on 7-9 from deep...I was a young boy thinking to myself who is this MJ????

So fun to watch

And this of course

Both were outstanding spot shooters and deadly when a ballgame was on the line. Allen was the more willing and accurate passer. Allen's handle was tighter. Allen created his own shots better and was a slightly better finisher. Miller was two inches taller, so he had an easier time getting his shots off. Allen was the better rebounder.

While Allen was barely an average defender, Miller's defense was pitiful. Allen was more committed to executing offensive sets, while Miller usually aborted plays. Without the ball, both Allen and Miller expertly used screens. Neither guy liked to be banged around and that was how teams tried to combat them (if the refs allowed it of course).

In my estimation, Ray Allen was the much better player and is truly a deserving Hall of Famer. Is Miller a Hall of Famer? Yes, but its a close call.

Re: Reggie Miller or Ray Allen?

Allen has that Kobe syndrome where he D's up when needed. I've seen him lock up plenty, but on average IDK how I'd rate him defensively.

Miller defensively... hmm. Yikes.
