"Random" Memorable Performances You've Seen

Curious about some "random" pitching or hitting performances that you guys have witnessed (whether it be in person, or watching the game on TV).

NOTE - excluding no-hitters and perfect games. I'm not talking about performances that are in the record books and are memorable to EVERYONE. I'm talking performances that you've watched that have stuck with you that many people have likely forgotten about or never even heard of.


First, let me clarify, I'm a huge Reds fan. Unfortunately, I live in South Carolina and we rarely get their games (unless they're on ESPN, FOX, or are playing the Braves.) I mention the Braves because I have gotten pretty much every Braves game on TV for my entire life, so most of my memorable performances occurred either by the Braves or by a Braves opponent.


The first game that stands out was this year. May 4, 2011. Tim Hudson vs the Brewers. Complete game shut out, 1 hit, 1 walk, 6 K's. It honestly seemed like Milwaukee never batted. He was breezing through his innings. I would have sworn he was had thrown a no-hitter. He was simply dominant.

Another Braves performance that stands out was July 21, 2007 against St. Louis. Willie Harris went 6 for 6 with 6 RBI and 2 triples. Just insane. Everytime he stepped to the plate, he made HARD contact with the ball. None of his 6 hits were cheap.

One more "random" performance that stands out in my mind is May 28, 2000. Roger Clemens vs Pedro Martinez. Clemens ended up going the distance, giving up 2 runs while striking out 13. But, Pedro one-upped the Rocket, by throwing a complete game shut out of his own, giving up just 4 hits and striking out 9. Honestly, one of the best pitching match ups I've ever watched on TV.

The last 3 performances I'm going to recall are some that I'm sure countless people saw, and many probably remember.
The first, is Pedro Martinez's dominance in the 1999 All-Star game. That was the first All-Star game I ever watched, and I THOUGHT I was in awe by seeing all of those legendary players and Ted Williams on the field before the game.....then Pedro took the mound and proceeded to strike out 5 of the 6 batters he faced, with all 5 being among the best players of the era.


The next is another Pedro Martinez game from 10 years later, on ESPN. Pedro was with the Phillies and people had been questioning his ability and how deep he could go into games before he would get hit. Pedro seemed to put all doubts to rest on September 13, 2009, when he threw 130 pitches in 8 innings of shut out ball against his former Mets. He struck out 7 and gave up 6 hits in a masterful performance, in which he demonstrated his craftiness and guile, rather than the sheer power and dominance that he showed in his younger years.

The last game that really stands out in my mind is from the NLDS in 1999, when Kevin Millwood of the Braves dominated the powerful Houston Astros. Millwood gave up 1 hit, a second inning home run to Ken Caminiti, en route to throwing a complete game gem to pull the Braves even in the series.

The first baseball game I ever attended, I was 8, and Ian Snell threw a no hitter for Pittsburgh's AAA Indianapolis Indians.

Mike Cameron's four home run game in Chicago, when he was playing with Seattle. He had six plate appearances that game. His other two PA's he flew out to the warning track and was hit by pitch. The home team crowd booed like no tomorrow when their own pitcher hit him.

Now this one I can't remember the player exactly, but I believe it was David DeJesus since he lead off for the Royals at the time. Anyway, he had five plate appearances in the game, and each time it was leading off an inning. He recorded a hit in every one of those plate appearances. I thought that was pretty randomly cool. EDIT: Either it was the Royals lead-off hitter or the team who played the Royals, which could have been the Indians now that I recall. That being said, I'm not sure who it was anymore, but I just know that happened in a game.

The final one would be Fernando Tatis as a Cardinal, hitting two grand slams in the same inning at Dodger Stadium, both off of Chan Ho Park.

Cubs/Marlins a few years ago, Dan Uggla crushes a HR odd Kevin Gregg to tie it in the 9th and then very next pitch Cody Ross hits the walkoff HR

I saw the first complete game shut out in Diamondbacks history when we went out to Phoenix to visit family. Omar Daal shut down the Chicago Cubs.

I remeber when Tim Lincecum recorded his 200th strikeout in the SF-SD game (http://www.baseballreference.com/box...00808220.shtml)
He also hit a double. Sandoval was 2-4.

Then there was July 4th, 2008, when i saw a Diamondbacks-Pirates game and Cha-Seung Baek had a no hitter through the 7th Inning before giving up 2 hits in the 7th.

not including this year, i've only seen a few ballgames on tv so i guess my pick would be Brandon Phillips hitting a walk off homer against the Cardinals about a week ago

May 7, 2008: I was watching the Twins/White Sox game on TV and Carlos Gomez hit for the cycle in "reverse" order (Home Run, Triple, Double, Single).
