Realignment ideas from Rosenthal

this is something MLB needs badly in a lot of ways. Ken Rosenthal has come up with three different proposals

1. Modest Realignment

AL EAST

Tigers
Yanks
Rays
Orioles
Jays

AL CENTRAL

BoSox
ChiSox
Twins
Indians
Royals

AL WEST

Angels
A's
Rangers
Mariners
Astros

NL EAST

Braves
Phillies
Mets
Marlins
Nationals

NL CENTRAL

Cubs
Cards
Brewers
Reds
Pirates

NL WEST

Dodgers
Diamondbacks
Giants
Rockies
Padres

2. Radical Realignment

AL ATLANTIC

Mets
Yanks
Blue Jays
Orioles
Nationals

AL GREAT LAKES

Twins
Pirates
Indians
Tigers
Reds

AL PACIFIC

Dodgers
Angels
A's
Giants
Mariners

NL EAST

Red Sox
Phillies
Braves
Marlins
Rays

NL MIDWEST

Cubs
Cardinals
Brewers
White Sox
Royals

NL SOUTHWEST

Diamondbacks
Rockies
Rangers
Astros
Padres

3. Revenue Realignment

AL MONEY

Yanks
Mets
Red Sox
Phillies
New Jersey A's (I have no clue how he gets this as I haven't read the article)

AL BUDGET

Blue Jays
Pirates
Royals
Reds
Indians

AL SOUTHEAST

Braves
Nationals
Orioles
Marlins
Rays

NL GREAT LAKES

Cubs
White Sox
Cardinals
Tigers
Twins
Brewers

NL WEST

Dodgers
Angels
Mariners
Giants

NL SOUTHWEST

Diamondbacks
Rockies
Rangers
Astros
Padres

What you guys think? Personally I think the one that makes the most sense is the modest realignment though the Radical Realignment has some intriguing possibilities.

I doubt any of the happen... and I'm positive they'll never split the Yankees and Red Sox up.

Re: Realignment ideas from Rosenthal

I don't understand why everyone thinks the Red Sox should move to the central (everybody meaning all of the realignments that I've seen). While I agree that having 3 of the five best teams in the game in one division is kind of dumb, Boston is not in the Center of the US by a longshot. And I will never accept a realignment without the Dodgers in Brooklyn and a rebuilt modern Ebbets Field.

Geographically speaking at least Toronto should be in the Central.

Re: Realignment ideas from Rosenthal

Massachusetts is in the north east so the Sox should be in an eastern division.

Here's my take for realignment:

AL East:
Red Sox
Mets
Yankees
Phillies
Nationals

AL North
Orioles
Tigers
Brewers
Twins
Pirates
Blue Jays

AL Pacific
Diamondbacks
Angels
Dodgers
Padres

NL Central
Cubs
White Sox
Reds
Indians
Royals
Cardinals

NL South
Braves
Marlins
Astros
Rays
Rangers

NL Northwest
Rockies
A's
Giants
Mariners

Re: Realignment ideas from Rosenthal

That Modest realignment proposal is absurd. Why take one of the consistently highest payroll teams out of a division (Red Sox) and put it into a division it should easily outspend the competition in? It looks like realignment just for the sake of realignment. A realignment that moves the Rays and/or Jays to the central for the Tigers would make sense on some level. Group the big money teams into one division and you lessen the impact they will have on the league as a whole as they beat up on one another and fight it out for one playoff spot.

How does he explain each league having 15 teams? Interleague every day?

I don't like it. No, the way it's set up is just fine. I don't know why everyone is always trying to change the divisions in baseball.

I generally agree. The only thing I really don't like in the current setup is the NL Central having 6 teams.
