Pretty sure his agent Casey Close has narrowed it down to 2 or 3 teams. You'd have to think the Yankees and DBacks are in at this point and the 3rd teams could be anyone like the Dodgers or Mariners who have a need for another SP. Wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs are in either.

In that case the Jays have to be very aggressive if they're serious about Tanaka. They can't afford to lay in the weeds looking for the right moment to strike which seems to be AA's M.O.

I think Tanaka probably has his wish list but they probably can't give him the dollars he's seeking.

According the MLB Trade Rumors it is likely more than just a couple of teams.

The Wilpons need to act like a large market team. They should be bidding hard for Tanaka.

Several teams want him. What I'm saying is how many teams will he actually consider?

It's open season and you have to assume the offers are gonna be identical unless someone just goes for broke with a $150 MM deal.

So with so many offers being identical, you have to wonder how many Tanaka and Close will actually care to consider.

If the Royals, Dodgers and Yankees offered $125 MM/7 years, I highly doubt Tanaka will sit at home wondering how nice Kansas City is.

Sorry Royals fans. Just the harsh realities.

Re: 2013-14 Hot Stove League Thread

I thought I remember reading that Tanaka said he'd rather play for a west coast team.

Am I remembering that right or was it one if the high profile FA's? Choo maybe?

Texas has no state income tax and Yu Darvish. If Tanaka wants to win a championship his best chance probably isn't in NY as much as I would like to see the Yankees get him.

Wouldn't surprise me if Tanaka wants to play for a West Coast team…not sure of his family situation, but if he wants to get back to Japan he can grab a non-stop easily from the West Coast.
