XBOX One devkits existed in some form for around two years before the XBOX One was released. I can only assume the PS4 devkits were offered out along a similar timeline.

The tech was evolving and updated as the system architecture and SDK was finalized, sure, but game dev shops were never remotely close to being in-the-dark about the new systems once concrete plans for both were put into motion. How else do you think they had fully-functional boxed-release games ready for system launch?

I agree. However, without more to it, this type of game especially will be a hard sell like APF was. Even having a deep franchise alone won't do it. To appeal to the mass market, there has to be a big hook that reaches a large demo.

Why invest in such an expensive license now with little chance of recouping cost and selling as many copies then you would 2 years from now when the install base will be much greater, you can only sell as many copies as there are systems sold. Smart business would dictate be patient and invest in such an expensive endeavor when the odds are better on your side to make a profit.

Also, Rockstar was a poor example because they made a sports game and it was fantastic....Rockstars Table Tennis was a well executed game with a great engine a good gameplay.

That's all I was saying.
That's why Rockstar and 2K need to quit fool'in around and team up. Rockstar on the story side, 2K on the football.

That game would be crack my dude.

That doesn't even make sense.
I meant if they wanted to get the license they could enter negotiations with the NFL and could negotiate with them in the terms that they would have a game ready next year or in two years. Madden would still be releasing so the league wouldn't be without an NFL game out on the shelves in that time. I could see the NFL allowing something like that under that circumstance. I'm not saying they'd get an exclusive license and do this, that doesn't make sense.

I also don't think it makes sense if you're 2K to allow an opportunity to get an NFL license to pass you by to allow EA and the NFL to enter a NEW 2-3 year deal because you want to work on a game in those 2-3 years. What happens when you spend the money to make that game and then find out this latest deal has changed the NFL's mind about opening up to multiple developers or EA decides to back up another dump truck of money to them because they're worried about this new game coming?

How do you know that's not exactly what's happening now.

The problem with this sentiment is that there is nothing anyone can offer to attempt to discredit it. The sentiment is not based in logic, so it cannot be reasoned with.

The facts as we know them - EA Sports has an NFL exclusivity license and a representative of 2K Sports has acknowledged that "another company" has an exclusivity arrangement with the NFL and thus they are not working on a football game. To me, the logical conclusion from the above known facts is that 2K is not working on a football game whatsoever. Even if some other company is working on a console football game, we don't know about it, there is no evidence by which we could deduce its existence, and we won't know about it until we actually see it materialize via a first-hand announcement or preview materials from a reliable video game industry source.

Until such point, said hypothetical football game doesn't exist and we should all stop chasing ghosts.

I'm hoping Madden makes real strides this year but I'm at the point where a generic football game sounds good! College would be best but a generic game wouldn't be bad.
