Mozilla meets Madden

Last night as I was trying to sleep, I was thinking about how much better can Madden be. Many of us mourn the loss of the 2K franchise and complain about the lack of competition. In years past, fans could modify the game (such as in Madden 08 PC) and I missed that. So I was wondering how the fan community can bring back the features that we loved, and create features that we wish for. Since we can't modify Madden 12 like we did in Madden 08 (and I doubt EA would allow developers to change and add to their game - and for good reason), I have concluded that the football simulation gaming community has to work together to create the game they want.

Instead of creating wishlists and complaints, write code!

I propose that football simulation and Madden fans create an open-source game in the spirit of the Mozilla development community that is customizable, accessible, sophisticated, and most importantly - fun!

In order to achieve this manumental task, we first have to discuss what organizational and development tools are needed to create an open-source football game. What game development software do we need? How should we communicate and share our developments? Should it be created for the Xbox 360 and/or for the PC?

Feel free to add any questions.

Edit: the goal isn't to really compete with Madden 13. The goal is to make a football game that we can control and improve, and bring back features that aren't in Madden 13.

Edit x2: Mozilla is an open-source browser. Concentrate on the "open-source", not the browser.

If you think an open source game will be better than 13, well man, you have a lot more to read up on video games and how they are made.

oh dear lord.......

As much as it might sound like a cool idea at first, I'm sure once you get started on trying to create your own game you will see how hard it really is to make a football game that plays and looks as good as Madden 13 or NFL 2k5. You'll be lucky if you can make a game that plays like madden 06!

Mozilla has nothing to do with video games. It's just another browser.
