Is there a verdict on walks yet, or are people still getting a "feel" for the hitting interface?

Tough to say so far. I'm seeing about 1 or 2 a game. If you can run the count full or even 3 - 1 it gets tough to judge balls down low and on the corners. There were plenty of times I had those counts and I swung at balls or at least pitches extremely close to the zone.

I think with a little better patience against some of the more poor controlled pitchers I might be able to draw 3 or 4 walks a game which is about average.

Does the CPU steal at all?

I've actually only played 2 games so far...lol, been trying to get rosters set.

But in the two games I played the CPU had 3 steal attempts, 2 were Crawford, and I forget who was the other one.

Yeah the CPU definitely steals. Hanley Ramirez on the Marlins tries to swipe em as does Christian Guzman on the Nats in my short time of playing.

If that's the case then I don't see why you couldn't assume that every full-time player and starting pitcher or closer would be protected. Just draft from whoever else remains. Or for example, going into a season I wouldn't have any problem taking Coco Crisp from the Red Sox. He's redundant and with limited minor leaguers someone who I'd say should be up for grabs expansion-wise.

Cool, you guys sound pretty happy with it so far. I got '07 just a few weeks ago, and can't wait to play '08. I just tracked it down over lunch and am extremely happy about that.

I am so annoyed, however, that they put in the Bullpen mode, and then ONLY left it in Exhibition games. Why bother?

Does the pitching meter vary based on the skill of the pitcher? For example, if I have Roy Halladay up there, is his meter much easier to use than, say, Boof Bonser's?

From my short experience with the meter each pitcher is exactly the same, but the results are very different. I've pitched with Johan and if I miss a little the ball moves a little bit away from its intended location. If I'm pitching with Oliver Perez and I miss the ball jumps quite a ways further than the intended location. It's definitely challenging with the CPU hitting set to powerful!
