Cat spaying question

Got 2 female kittens about a year ago and finally today got them spayed. They're indoor cats and one of them didn't go into heat very often but the other one seemed to constantly be in heat. Plus in the long run it's healthier for them to do it. But since they came home a few hours ago they're exhibiting odd behavior. I expected this due to the anesthetic and the cones and them being generally freaked out but what they're doing I'm not seeing examples of online. They'll move around for a moment or two then freeze like a statue for several minutes. I just need reassurance that someone else has seen this in cats and that it's not something to be heavily concerned about.

Re: Cat spaying question

Give them about 72 hours or so. Nothing to be concerned about as long as they are still sleeping and eating. Remember, getting a cat fixed (which all responsible pet owners should do) is much more taxing on females as it is a lot more invasive. If they are still acting strange in 3 days, consult your vet. Until then, I wouldn't worry.

Re: Cat spaying question

I would second the post given above. Spay are a much more invasive procedure and it can take a little longer for them to recover. Keep an eye to make sure they are still eating/drinking. If you see anything that really seems out of the ordinary don't be afraid to contact your veterinarian.

Feel free to private message if you need anything. I am a third year veterinary student and own three cats of my own.

Re: Cat spaying question

Update: They stopped with the weird behavior from last night. Now they're just doing "normal" like growling and hissing at each other lol.

Seems like normal female behavior with any species.
