By the way Will, thanks for making me feel old. I graduated in 1984. I was a sophmore when you were born. Dang......

P.S. where in Illinois? I was at Chanute AFB in Rantoul in 1986 in Tech School

Re: Why Next-Gen Sports Games Disappoint

I'm not disappointed at all but then again, I don't play EA Sports games.

If I went any bigger, it would not have properly fit with my equipment, so I had to optimize. I'm okay with it, but I also know what I'm missing with those five inches. :)

Briankingsfan - I grew up around the Quad Cities. Although I did spend my college years at a certain school in Champaign, so I am quite familiar with the neighboring village of Rantucky.

And I apologize for making you feel old. I guess thank you for making me feel young!

Yeah, it's kinda sad Chanute doesn't even exist anymore. And seeing as I'm a Michigan fan from Ypsilanti, I'm familiar with beating a certain school from Champain.......

Re: Why Next-Gen Sports Games Disappoint

Yea the only thing I think has really changed for the worse is the exclusive deals.

NFL I thought Madden was really disappointing last gen the last few years. It seemed many people said the same back then, so I don't really understand all these people longing for those days.

NCAA I enjoy just as much, maybe more than last gen.

The NBA 2K series is still great. Same with College Hoops 2K. The EA basketball games still suck.

NHL seems to be better though I'm not really into hockey.

I haven't played the Show but everyone says it is amazing. MLB 2K hasn't been good in years, last gen or next gen.

Great write up. One Thing I would have added is the added cost of the game makes us expect more. They charge us ten bucks more a game and yet we get less than we could with the cheaper verisons.

I'm truly hopefully this is the year that starts to change, but with stadiums still missing from NCAA, Madden championing a feature not designed with true sports gamers in mind I'm already let down before they've even been released.

I guess I am disappointed the most because Im not really seeing an advancement in the football genre.

When I look at all the games that have come out for next gen, non of the sports games really wow me anymore. Other genres have come so far and are amazing to say the least...that when I put in Madden or whatever, I feel I have wasted my money.

There really is no excuse for sports games to be moving backwards. We still see the same glitches year in and year out with no fixes, we havent seen any increase in presentation ( and in reality...took a step back ) , we havent seen any new physics engines, we havent seen anything other than improved graphics. Its now time for football 09 season games to be released and we still havent got all the options we had back in 04 and 05 back.

My favorite sport game for the longest was NCAA football. Unfortunantly we are still not seeing much improved there either since back in 2002-2003.

I have heard the same commentary since I was stationed in Korea back in 01 I think. At the very least, it hasnt changed enough that I ever noticed it. They removed the stadium entrances, they removed the player warmups before the game, they have removed a ton, and not added much at all. 09 is looking to be different, but I wonder what will be broken upon release? Menus in next gen were so slow and laggy that hardly anyone could stand to use, Madden and NCAA both had 3-4 pick 6's per game which made it completely unrealistic...none of these problems were on the older generation games.

I really enjoy the basketball and baseball games that have been released, but football is lacking....there has been little to no improvement besides graphics in the last 8 years or so.
