ootp lack of ingame control?

Im used to mogul where you can even tell where a pitch is going, etc, are still the only options of ootp pitch around and pitch center or something? isnt it a bit lacking on micro strategy?

Id like to try ootp, but I feel ootp is more about GM and mogul more about manager?

please correect me if im wrong, im not too wise about ootp.
