I dont think we outgrow gaming, I do think things like jobs, kids, girlfriends occupy more and more of your time.

I remember not playin games at all for almost a 4-5 year period then when PS2 came out I went game crazy again.

I think USF is right, it's not that you outgrow it, it's just that you can't do it for 8 hours a day anymore, like my 15 year old nephew does currently. I've also been going through a sort of gaming renaissance myself...for a long time, I wouldn't touch anything but a sports game. Now I find myself playing shooters/sandbox games almost exclusively. I just picked up the original Assassin's Creed and I'm loving it.

They will probably have to pry my controller from my cold dead hands.

There was a time when I was burned out though. When I was in the last few years of college I got rid of all my consoles. I bought a PS2 right before the 360 came out, which was my first console since the N64.

Outgrowing gaming is kind of like outgrowing sports, if you love playing/watching it you will never out grow it. If the games are no longer fun, maybe it's time to step away for awhile.

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

Having less time to play is more of the problem. I remember sitting in front of my tv for hours when the first Grand Theft Auto came out. I can't do that anymore. I'm lucky if I get a chance to play for 2 hours a day. It used to be more like 8 - 10 hours a day. But, with a fiance, trying to plan a wedding, work, working out, I just don't have the time anymore.

I will say this though. The day I stop playing video games will be a sad day for me. My fiance on the other hand would love nothing more than for me to give it up.

HAHA. Jokes on her. Nobody likes quiters!!!

Re: Outgrowing gaming: How do you recognize it??

I'm 39 years old and as the work day nears its end each day, I still find myself eagerly looking forward to getting home to get some gaming time in.

To concur with an above poster, the time factor that kicks in with life's priorities is the only detriment. I still remember the days of trying to rationalize working off 2 hours sleep because I was up til 4 in the morning playing videogames. LOL

If you're ignoring outside factors such as lack of time, then I think if you're feeling unsatisfied with gaming, it's more likely that the reason is because you're hungry for something different.

I know for me, I've completely burned out with sports games. If I only played sports games then I would be done with video games.

Someone who only likes FPS titles may feel that a lot of the newer ones are just the same games with better graphics. Many will say that's not true, but I'm sure there are people out there that feel it is true.

So I think it depends on your range. I was able to switch over from sports games to FPS and 3PS games with ease. If you're finding that you can't find excitement in the genres you enjoy, then you're bound to feel as if you've passed the need to game.

I just play what seems fun, and don't game if I'm not in the mood...in the past I've gone a month or two without gaming much, but then I'll game a lot with new releases (like now)...
