General Manager "mode"

Like most people here I LOVE HC09 and am always looking for ways to make it more challenging. I was wondering if anyone has ever considered doing this: I find I enjoy the back-of-house stuff -- scouting, drafting, contracts, cap management, etc. -- even more than I do the actual head coaching stuff so I was thinking of possibly automating everything except what traditionally falls under the general manager's responsibilities focusing on the business side of the game. Has anyone ever tried that?

Never tried it but seems like a fun idea. If you try it make sure you report back how it goes...

I would be interested to see how that goes as well.

I'm giving the 'GM mode' a try and started my own GM dynasty here:

sounds interesting. I'll try it. I looked at your dolphins thing and I think it's good but I would take out the rules about signing only 1 guy a week and all that stuff. I want to be the most involved GM possible lol!

Those rules only apply to the 'waiver wire' free agents, not those that come up for bidding on the main screen. I set these rules up because after playing this game for 5 years I think it's become too easy if you know what to do. I could easily turn every team into a Superbowl contender within 1 year without those rules. Just want to make the game a bit more challenging/interesting.

I might try this. Just need to figure out which team to use with the new rosters. Thinking an NFC team, although the Jets might be fun.

Re: General Manager "mode"

I've tried this a few times since I posted the idea (sorry, I never think to take info down to do a "Dynasty" thread) and it's a lot of fun, but I'm noticing that I need some house rules because these were my results:

Ravens: Super Bowl win year two
Chiefs: Four Super Bowl appearances in a row; win year one and three.
Falcons: back-to-back Super Bowls years 3-4
49ers: Playoffs all four years, Super Bowl appearance year 2

And the one that made me realize I needed house rules:

Raiders: Super Bowl appearance years 2,3,5 win year 3
