Unlocking rookies potential

I have not been that successful in unlocking the potential of my rookies during training camp. I normally get about 5 or 6 to unlock...but that is all.

You never know who may be out there? I try to just "train rookies" but that doesnt seem to help much. I also try to ply then during the pre-season games but that is very erratic.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I haven't had a problem I guess. I would look at your GM's ratings on the evaluating rookies for each position. Once the final cut rolls around I've always had all their potentials show.

Re: Unlocking rookies potential

Maybe that is why one of my goals every year has been to hire a new gm He is pretty weak across the board but he has been an improvement over my last one. I have had him 3 years but we have made it to far into to post season to get anyone any better at this point.

There is no way to see what the potential growth is for a gm until you hire them is there? I dont mind getting someone that is...say a 20...if he has the potential to have 4 and 5 ratings after a few years... But some of them that I have hired in my other teams like that have a 20 because they cant go any higher

No, hiring coaches is one of the few times I don't mind the old "save/reload" trick. Save before you fire, and then hire your options that you are interested in one at a time, and then check out their skills. If you are doing well, you won't have to give up as much control for the better coaches. I have a list of all coaches/trainers/GM's first year ratings overall skill, but haven't made the effort to look at each for their potential.

Re: Unlocking rookies potential

Thanks...one other thing. How can you know what someone might be able to do? I mean...I fired my db coach and he was rehired by someone else as a special team coach. My stc is not that great...and it would have been nice to see if this guy could have done that for me...if he was better as a stc I would have kept him and fired the stc I have.

Re: Unlocking rookies potential

I don't often use the "train rookie" gameplans unless its for a rookie that I expect to fill a huge role immediately, such as quarterback.

I just usually master offense and defensive plays then play all of my rookies throughout the pre-season. Eventually it unlocks most of the attributes for all of the rookies.

Re: Unlocking rookies potential

If your starters have mastered the plays do you play them at all in pre-season? I try to do it like I would in real life. I play them the 1st 2 drives in the first game...the 1st qrtr in the 2nd and 3rd and the 1st half in the last one. Sometimes I keep them in for the 1st half in the 3rd game and the 1st 3 qrtrs for the last one. I wonder if I am thinking to much about that and if they have mastered it if I should just bench them and play all of my rookies. I have noticed the comp will play the starters on the opponenet's team pretty much the whole game on every pre-season game.

Re: Unlocking rookies potential

Every preseason game I've played the Computer plays its starters the first half, and second string the second half.

That's what I do too.
But most of my starters in my second year are rookies because I cleaned house after my first year.

I had Rookies I knew would be starting so I spent most practices training rookies. I only practiced specific plays if they were created plays that I use a lot, so I wanted my rookies to get to know those plays early.

I think all of my rookie potentials were unlocked by the time the final cut came along.
