Teambuilder team vs non-teambuilder team?

I'm new to the teambuilder aspect of Ncaa Football and I'm still figuring it all out. I have found that in an unranked online game I can play with my teambuilder team against my buddy's teambuilder team but is there anyway for me to use my teambuilder team against my buddy if he uses one of the ea created universities in an unranked game or does it have to be teambuilder vs teambuilder?
