Do You Care Who Does The Names?

I got to thinking about this after gator/bucks roster came out. Their roster, to me, isn't five days of waiting better than gamingtailgate's. I know it has adjustments and additions, etc. I'm just not sure the week we all waited to start our dynasties was worth the wait based off of version 1. (I'm not trying to bash them. I know its time consuming and tedious. I'm just comparing version 1 vs the wait.) That got me to thinking. The naming of the players is by far the most time consuming aspect. So, do you care who actually types the names into the game?

If gamingtailgate is able to get a named but unedited roster (that we all need for online anyway) done within a day or two of release, would you hold it against buckeye/gator or luvtotha9's if they took that named roster set and used their time to make the appropriate adjustments? If their roster came out in the same amount of time but had 80% less errors and 80% more corrections/additions, would you care if they said they took gamingtailgate's names and improved on it?

I think we, as an NCAA community, would be much better served if these guys didn't all have to go in and re-do what someone else had already done. They could have less headaches and more sleep and we could have even more amazing rosters within a week of release. Hey, Mike Leach, Chip Kelly, Urban Meyer and many others all took Mouse Davis' run-and-shoot and built off of it.

That just seems to make sense to me. What do you guys think?

Let me get in before the lock...

What if the first and only person who named the roster made mistakes? You would still spend time correcting those, so maybe you want to do it yourself.

But here is the big thing. If you want to do a roster file, you must do something to make it your own--an easter egg of sorts that will be an intentional mistake. If I dated a girl from a certain state, I might find the most obscure school in that state on the game, find the tight end lowest on the depth chart if my girl had a nice butt, and give him my last name. That would assure the roster file was mine, but that would technically be an incorrectly named player. Just let the roster guys do what they want to do please. They WANT to do this.

I agree with you. They did a great job but if they had a four person team with two responsible for names and two for equipment and attributes things would flow easier. The way it stands now they have to go back and start editing equipment and making more roster corrections.

Simple. Let's say luvtotha9s puts his roster out, and later you say YOU put that file out. All he has to do is see if you have the same "incorrect" edit on your file and if you do, you copied his. The trick is to put the "incorrect" edit on an obscure team but you don't have to. Hope that makes sense now.

nice butt = tight end

This is funny on many levels.

A. Why do you need to protect your roster as your own? Are you getting paid for them? No. Are there copyright laws protecting them? No. gamerosters.com likely uses other peoples rosters and sells them. However, nobody is checking to see of they are and there is likely no recourse. You can put an easter egg in there call someone out but that would be the only purpose.

B. Have you ever edited rosters? The names take up 80% of the time if not more. It is easy to scroll through a roster and see if there are naming mistakes. That takes a minute. To edit the names of all the players, that takes 30-50 minutes per team. Big difference in time. Time that could be used to truly make a roster set unique and more in-depth.

And let me just reiterate. I am not bashing the rosters. I know the time investment. I know how grueling it is. I know they did a pretty good job all things considered. I'm just saying everyone could have better rosters and they could have easier lives if they said hey, gamingtailgate, y'all name them and get them out at release and then we'll go in and do all the corrections and edits. Everyone wins in that scenario.

A. Because people HAVE come over here, got someone's roster file when released, and sold it online because everybody does not know you can get rosters for free. Where have you been?

B. Yes: College Hoops 2K8 with theairupthere and NCAA Basketball 10 with Bigdmo.

Don't question me bro--I'm one of the few people trying to help you but I won't do that again. Don't ever go there with me again.
