Tips & Controls for NBA Live 14

Hey fellas, since we're seeing quite a few more new faces coming on and enjoying the game, but not really being familiar with the depth of the controls, I figured I'd post a few screenshots of the "Controls" as well as some tips that I've came across on my own. Feel free to add your own if you come across something.

The Basics

Some advanced footwork

Some Post Moves

In the Post While Not dribbling

Additional Post Shots

The Passing Game

Looking to get some additional fancy passing?

Want to manually go to the Bank Shot?

Okay, so those are the basics. Some additional tidbits of information that I've came across:

Teardrop/Runner Floater
-While driving the lane, holding the L1 modifier button and pressing shoot, the player will attempt a teardrop floater.

Euro Step Pass/Manual Finish
-After performing the Euro Step (double tap of Y/Triangle), you can manually shoot, or pass out of it. If you let the animation play out, it will try a layup automatically.

Call for a specific screener
-Want to run the pick and pop/slip with a player other than your Center or PF? While you have the ball, gently press the left analog stick towards the player that you want to come and set a screen. You will see a white circle come up under their feet. Press/hold the L2 button to have them come and set a screen.

Lead Passing
-Just in case this is missed from above, make sure you lead the break with Lead Passing. Press the modifier L1 button and pass to throw the ball in front of your player. If you tap the pass button instead of hold it, it will "loft" the ball out a little instead of being a chest pass. Very cool stuff.

I'll be adding some more as I remember things. There are so many different options, that it's tough to get them all from memory.

Spin Gather

In the post above, in the "gathers" screen, you'll see a spin gather. The video above shows the appropriate way to use this move. It's a move that's done often in the NBA, and it's a move that you have at your disposal in NBA Live 14. When I first came across this move, I had NO CLUE what it's purpose was, because if you use it out of the way it's meant to be used (above), then it's a VERY awkward animation. Then, I saw Tony Parker use it, and use it well. I love the fact that this is in your arsenal to control.

Just wanted to share with those who see the control, and aren't sure on when/where to use it.

Triangle/Y and Rotate the Left Analog half a circle in the direction you want to spin.

This is good stuff!

Why oh why doesn't LIVE have a practice mode.. to me it's a no-brainer.

That spin gather move is basically a free layup/dunk if you can pull it off.

They really need to implement some contact animations to defend against all these gather moves, as every one of them is able to generate a free path to the rim.

I'm not going to argue with you on this thread, but if you'll watch the video, Parker misses the shot. It's missed a LOT. I've seen charges drawn on those shots, I've seen blocks, I've see contact animations coming off of it.

Let's keep this thread on the Tips & Controls. Thanks

Re: Tips & Controls for NBA Live 14

Any tips for creating space off the dribble for pull-ups or drives? Just got it and struggling mightily to create shots. A lot of blocks on my pull-ups. The dribbles don't seem to cover much ground. Or rather they appear ineffective.

Also, how do I stay in front of the dribbler. Tired of getting dunked on by little guys who just scoot into the lane.
