Takes away half the ugly animations you'd see in teh half court sets IMO. If only they had a game speed slider

And the CPU comes right back at ya aggressive also

I am really dissapointed as I was led to believe the whole "real time physics" would fix all that stuff. Instead, we've got some of the worst looking / most unrealistic animations I've ever seen in a basketball game.

Hook shots for 3 = WTF...and there's tonnes of stuff like that.

How did they let all that stuff get into the game? It looks like a BETA.
I think I'm missing what the complaint is with the hook shot...you do realize the user CHOSE to do a hook shot right? He must have pushed L1 which made him post up and then pushed left or right to do the hook shot...

If you know how to use the controls then you wouldn't let that happen...sure the animation for the hook shot looked bad but I don't understand why you are upset about the hook itself...it that unrealistic? Of course but just don't make your player do it then...

Or am I missing your point?

Go watch hard8times "THANK YOU EA SPORTS" youtube video. I can't post it here, warning: profantiy but view the cpu vs cpu gameplay on there. It actually isn't so bad. with a few tweaks in a yr or two, its good.

they lack alot of stuff, but all that shouts out to me is animation and speed.

they are not playing a fast game as a user is.

that cpu v cpu vid that he posted gave me hope.

yall were making the comparisons to live 07, nope just go watch, its at least playable.

I highlighted that as it's on youtube and I don't have the facilities to make my own vids...but you'd know full well the CPU also does stuff like that all the time / horrible animations / weird looking shots.

If it was just the user...that would be okay.

But it's not.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

Played it a fair bit yesterday and I don't think i'll be buying it this year. If the gameplay was smooth and the other issues (clipping, bugs etc) weren't present it might be worth it but it's really lacking polish and needs another year (again).

The problem we have now is that the controls are getting so advanced for both nba games and are now so totally different simply making the swap from one to the other is more difficult. While i respect the direction Elite is trying to take it's simply not worth putting up with all the quirks and generic feeling to try and master them when the other game is so polished.

It's not like the battle between PES and Fifa where the controls are quite similar these basketball games have almost totally opposite complicated control scheme's so they both take a lot of practice to get it down (at least for an old fart like me).

I really liked live 10 and really believe they were on the verge of something great but this massive change of direction seems like it will put it back to square one for a few years yet again.

This game is worse than I thought. After really learning the controls, you can just Euro step through everything because the physics are so bad. Rebounding is like something out of a basketball acid induced nightmare. You have these strange skeletal figures bursting out of the ground and clasping the ball with their boney hands.

That LTrigger/L2 gather function is a cheeser's wet dream. It should be called the Matrix button, because you press it and your player moves like an Agent. Don't even bother playing the game. Just pick random spots on the court to press the L2 and push up on the right stick. Awful.

I don't know if there is even the core of a good game to build on here. Right now, there are clearly people in the process over at EA that don't get it.

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

constructive criticism:

A SMALL sampling of a major problem for elite, imo.

"they lack alot of stuff, but all that shouts out to me is animation..."

"...Bad and lack of animations are in the game AGAIN and worse than ever..."

"...The animations are a huge step back ..."

"...The animations bothered me as much while playing as they did when I was watching ..."

"...Loose Any More Brain Cells That Ive Lost While Watching Such Horrid Animations ..."

"... just cant get over how the game "looks" as far as animations goes. Its just looking weird..."

i think elite has reached the limit of their ability to animate with their "engine" they have. the same jerky, robotic animations yr after yr , that are not realistic.

i think one of the ea guys said with the new controls, they had run out of animation memory or something to that affect.

they need to scrap animation engine(or whatever it is and update to this gen of consoles. i think that is why we still see same animating yr after yr, they cant improve it much more.

i dont believe we will see much better animations until next gen machines (at earliest)for ea elite...

for years, hangar/practice animations where you have a couple players animating have been decent. passable enough , that if they could translate to 5 on 5, they could compete somewhat in that area.( still need a lot of other work too)

but those animations never translate over to 5 on 5 well, their 5 on 5 animations are rediculously bad, and they have yet to fix them thru 06,07,08,09,10,11. ( 10 moving somewhat vaguely towards something resembling human movement.)

would like to see ea prove this theory wrong...

Re: NBA Elite 11 Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (PS3, 360)

ok I haven't owned a basketball game since NBA live 2000 on the PS2 but here is my impression of the demo.

Tutorial -
This was my first attempt at analog stick control in a basketball game. I'm not sure I like it. There is a steep learning curve moving from the traditional button mashing to the stick controls. The tutorial explained some moves but not all of them. the controls menu should have been available in practice mode for noobs like me. I'm not a big fan of the stick controls in any sport games. i don't think that it adds any realism but it is the sexy thing to do now, so be it. The game didn't explain how to gather vs euro gather vs pro hop.

graphics -
the short animations look like a flag waving in the wind. Many of the crowd NPCs had close ups on the sideline and you could tell their bodies were made of straight rectangles. they look really bad up close. the player models have this plastic cartoonish look to them. where is the sweat that next gen consoles are supposed to have. on the upside their faces look much better than they do in the NBA2K demo IMO.

movement -
again I'm a noob so i know a lot of this will take some getting used to, but I never got the sense that I was able to create space with all the crossover, in and out dribble, and behind the back animations. they were simply animations that the defenders didn't bit on. maybe i'm doing something wrong.

physics -
i saw a lot of collisions that reminded me of the piggy back tackles in madden. players would bump in mid air and sort hit a force field. I saw a few players morph through the defender on collisions. I like the removal of the locked in two player animations. you need these in some instances like when you post guys up but I remember playing some other NBA Live games where double teams would pull you into this wild scramble to pass the ball. you couldn't dribble out of it. you were just stuck.

animation-

super quick shot block attempts. looks unrealistic. big men look a little like Shrek lumbering down the court. overall it was fine to me.

shooting -
i played a couple games and only made three shots. I guess I need more practice. when i ran a set play for kobe it was rewarding to catch the ball in the post and nail a fade away jumper, just like he does in real life. Like many other folks have said the shooting mechanic needs to be re envisioned. in practice mode you literally could make every single shot you wanted to and never miss. that's not a simulation of real life. i would love to see if the sweet spot of a shooter actually decreases when he is being pressured or double teamed or shooting over a larger opponent. I doubt that it does so in theory a person could make every single shot he put up. I need proof that good defense effects your ability to make the shot with actually blocking the shot. in practice mode it didn't appear that fade aways and off balance shots were affected in this way
