Game freezes at dunk contest

My game (Steam version) freezes at most of the dunks in my first dunk contest. The game just quits. It happens with the other contestants' dunks, it seems at least 50% of their dunks freeze right when they dunk it. Restarting, windowed mode, screen resolution etc. do not help, even tried windowed mode and the minimize to taskbar...

Since you are unable to quit from the Start menu, I am pretty much screwed, all I can do is restart the game over and over, hoping that once they select dunks that are not glitched.

TLDR: do not take part in the dunk contest, you may be stuck there forever.

I got out of the loop by going windowed mode with a low resolution, than i just afked the whole thing without skipping any cutscenes. Worked for me, no crash with this method.

This is ironic as I just fixed this issue and was about to post on it.

So far the only work around to the crash to desktop during the Dunk Contest is disabling the audio drivers of your PC. You can do this by using Device Manager in Control Panel. Under Sound, video and game controllers disable the main audio device. Complete the dunk contest, "save and quit" when you can if you're in the All Star contest and close the game. Enable the sound drivers again and load from your last save.

Don't understand why this is still unpatched, a potential game killer with a very unintuitive fix.

It's unpatched because the #3 patch comes next week.
