1st & 3rd quarter CTD after commercial

Has anyone found a valid solution to this seemingly random crash? It infuriates me to no end when after a good quarter (or even worse 3 12 minute quarters) the game just crashes to the desktop. I've tried updating my graphics drivers, trying older ones, audio drivers, chipset drivers, so that's not it. I've tried closing background applications. That's not it. I've tried not hitting the A button and letting the ad play to its end. That's not it.

Any legitimate, valid solutions to this issue?

Sorry, man, I haven't had a crash in 10+games. Which roster are you using? The only times I've noticed crashes was when I was using a roster that ended up being buggy.

I don't know what makes a roster buggy, so I wouldn't know about that, but over at NLSC someone that used a vanilla NBA 2K12 (no mods or rosters) also said that they got a crash of this sort.

I've played over 80 games in total since I bought the game, around a fifth of them have crashed, so it is possible that you've just got lucky.

Looking around in other forums it seems like it's not dependent on CPU, GPU, OS or anything, and I can't get a pattern on what causes it to happen.

Sorry I can't help you. It's a really fun game once you get all the kinks worked out. It's crazy it's crashed on you that many times. Are you on a desktop or laptop?

Desktop, and trust me, I've tried everything to remedy this. 2K had soft hangs and hard hangs since 2K9 on the PC, and those were always fixed with the PC patch. Let's hope that they do that again this year.

I had luck creating a shortcut and running 2k12 in compatibility mode with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and DirectX 9.

Create a shorctut for NBA 2k12, right-click on it and go to Properties. On the Shortcut tab, add "-dx9" to the end of the target.

Mine looks like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\nba 2k12\nba2k12.exe" -dx9

Under the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for" box and select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)" from the drop-down menu.

Huh? Where did that command line argument come from? 2K12 IS a DX9 game as far as I know, and that switch would do nothing.

And compatibility mode won't help me, I'm on XP, but I've been hearing the same crash exists in Win 7 as well.
