Association predicted this year's offseason

So we were all whining early in the season that association is not realistic with dwight always leaving LA in FA ,CP3 and Iggy opting out etc.

Well guess what, Dwight 9/10 goes to the Rockets in any association and it's close to happen irl.Iggy always leaves Denver and mostly lands in Cleveland.Well he landed in GSW but the opt out still happened. And CP3 landing somewhere like Detroit 9/10 is the most unrealistic scenario but he was this close to leave the Clippers.Well 2k could not predict the Doc Rivers trade...

Only one that got away was the Andrew Bynum opt out ,but Bynum has been a glitch in basketball video games anyway ( see Jesus Elite for further proof).

Now according to year two the big three stays in Miami except for Bosh that sometimes declines his player option and Carmelo is going to the Mavs...

Your thoughts?

Re: Association predicted this year's offseason

I agree. A lot of times I think to myself that it's unrealistic because so many guys are switching jerseys in the offseason in the game, then summer comes around and I'm reminded that guys switch teams that much in real life, too. Some of the destinations are unrealistic, but I give 2K credit.

It would be good if big market teams had a better chance of landing players, though, because I see stuff like LeBron going to Phoenix or CP3 going to Utah. It would make OA's unbalanced though.

I've had Bosh and Melo team up in Phoenix in mine lol. I went back to playing 2K11 and they have Dwight's loyalty as "extremely loyal".

My problem isnt that players are being moved; its to where they are being moved. In my association Chris paul signed with the cavs in spite of the fact they had kyrie Irving then they procedded to refuse to deal irving in spite of the fact that he could of brought in a kings ransom for the rebuilding cavs. Dwight howard proceded to sign with the pistions in my association mode in spite of anre drummond, and greg monroe being their. Also some are just plain wrong why is Josh smith loyal to the hawks when it is common knowledge he wants to skip town? Why are the Kings so quick to resign evans given that his production has fallen off? Things like this makes the game seem unrealistic.

I usually keep multiple files for situations like these(i dont have the time to control 30 teams). It really bogs me whenever the CPU doesnt understand that having CP3 and Kyrie is overkill.

In one particular occasion i kept reloading a free agency and Dwight was never taken by anyone(the Dwightmare never ended) so he signed for the 76ers for 1yr/4 mil despite Bynum being there.I had to go and absorb contracts(Asik and others) in a trade with the Rockets ,just so they could land him in FA.
So yes i agree with you that the CPU should recognize roster holes or eventually trade one of the two redudant stars.

The problem is programming wise, it looks real challenging to find a good algorithm for the CPU to understand cap space, who are the franchise cornerstones, when a team makes no sense to make an FA splash(aka rebuilding or contending) ,when is the right time to tank, what kind of players to draft etc.

It seems the CPU is the Bryan Colangelo of GMs.I know we all want a smarter AI when it comes to association but i'm not sure if its possible and/or profitable for 2k to spend resources on that.

In one of my Association Files Dwight ended up in Phoenix and CP3 went to the Cavs. In 2K12 Paul always ended up on the Suns. Sometime the CPU can nail these things real well or get random ones like Melo signing with the Lakers.

Which is not out of the realm of reality. If Kobe retires and Melo opts out, I could definitely see him heading to L.A.
