How to beat the powerhouse teams with Average teams?

I have a 165-30 record, but lately I've been running into good players that uses the powerhouse teams (Heat,Lakers,Thunder and Knicks) I been losing to them but my games are always decided in the final minutes. My friends told me that the only way i could win is fight fire with fire, by him saying that he told me to use the Elite teams vs them, I have never used them before and not planning to. I use the Pistons, Mavs and the Raptors but planning to switch to another team, thinking about the Jazz or the Cavs. What team should i use to match up with the elite teams? Im a defensive minded kinda guy so a team offensive is not required for me to use them. Im tired of seeing bad messages after my game with them like "you suck bum, go practice and etc. thanks in advance guys.

Re: How to beat the powerhouse teams with Average teams?

I run with Portland online, haven't play in a while but are 50-1 with them. Portland can be a very frustrating team because both of my shooters not only have a low consistency but also 67 rated medium shots. The key to my success comes from a few things, one is knowing my players. For instance, anytime I take a jumper with Matthews, his release is perfect 100% of the time, it's the CPU calculations that will be working against me, certainly not my release.

Also, before playing online ranked matches, I became much better at 2k from playing Myteam Mode. After you get used to playing against lineups stacked with Jordan, Magic, Drexler, Durant and Howard you are forced to learn how to play good defense. The key for me in this mode was to not fight fire with fire. I learn to win with role players vs these teams. When I reached this level, no regular team scared me anymore considering what I had to face in Myteam.

Finally, a big part of my success come from film study. Whenever I would lose, I would always pinpoint what I did wrong and immediately find a fix. I actually break it down using the problem solving method. Find the problem of why I'm giving up points, work on a solutions, experiment, evaluate results etc etc.

This was one of main reasons why I switched to a zone defense. I basically perfected man defense yet player were still teleporting on me, help defense was too slow and even though I would stick to my opponent like glue, animations would take over rendering my defender useless. I say this because you have to learn to master 2k for what it is, a video game. I'm certainly not talking about exploits, I'm talking about learning what really works in the game.

Sixers user here, all I can say is that my game revolves around giving people open looks from beyond the arc but packing the paint HARD as hell. I will let the Miami's, Lakers, OKC etc get 5-6 three's against me a game but that won't be enough to win. As long as I can stop the "cheese" players from getting to the freethrow line or dunking often, getting fast breaks etc. , I have them right where I want them.

Make sure you have a good handle on rebounding. Other than interior defense, preventing your opponent from scoring second chance baskets will definitely help your cause. Most of my losses have come from my inability to secure defensive boards (Detroit might be good for this). Hope this helps.

Nearly 85 percent win percentage is pretty good. I'm not sure you need to make drastic changes. I really don't see the need to change teams.

IRL those teams wouldn't beat them at that clip. My suggestion would be to focus on one team only.

Jazz fan here, post up with Jefferson A LOT. Once they start doubling him, start kicking it out for wide-open 3's and then it's game over.

Grizz or Pacers would seem to be the answer.to me. Use the big bodies and rebounders on those small ball teams and pepper in those spot-uo shooters like bayless, west, etc.

Honestly, it's all about ball movement, good looks/smart shots, and especially, KNOWING YOUR PLAYERS. I recently beat a clippers player with the pacers online and those were the key aspects in my win.
