Defense:Need Less Sliding, More Contact on the Drive

I just finished playing a game vs someone who abused lead passing and drove the paint 85%. I would play good man defense against the ball handler but when the ball was passed and he drove with another person, I would try to get in front and bump him, but for some reason my defender is sliding backwards as he drives the lane and he would sometimes finish with a layup or dunk (i.e Dwight Howard's drives) with no realistic physical contact. The same thing goes for the baseline drive because it is hard to cut off the baseline if the ball handler is just going to go into the paint without getting bumped a little bit. I pretty sure there was more contact on defense in NBA 2k12 and I feel that they lowered it to make the offense that much better. Also, does anybody have tips on how to stop the abusive lead passing into the paint?

Unfortunately we've all been saying the same thing since the release. 2K took out all contact on dunk animations and drives for player controlled defenders. The best idea i've had is to play off ball and put your on ball and off ball defense up to play tight or deny ball. Its useless on Quick Matches though because even with those up, Pro difficulty isn't stopping anyone from driving and dunking whenever they want.

You might want to rely less on one on one defense and start to figure out how to take advantage of the help defense your cpu players provide. Seriously, it works.

That depends on how you have your defensive settings for 3 pt shooters and jump shooters. I didn't say stop playing on ball defense, you just can't think one on one defense is the solution to protecting against penetration with the dribble or the pass. It's a give and take. If you set tight or deny, they will protect against the outside shot but will not be in the best position to help. If you set moderate or sag off, they will give up more jumpers but stop penetration better. Pick your poison..... You can even switch off ball and put a player in specific help position to accomplish the goal you want manually on defense.

Sent from my EVO.... 4 real.
