How do I go about creating myself in 2K? Stat wise?

Like, how do I determine mid range/close range/3pt skill etc. Do I base these out of how many shots I make out of 100, and I would have zero idea how to determine speed/stamina, etc. Any ideas?

Re: How do I go about creating myself in 2K? Stat wise?

I try to use a formula sort of like this. I think it's pretty accurate.

Shooting:
50%+: 90+
45-50: 85-90
40-45: 80-85
30-40: 65-80
20-30: 50-65
<20: <50

For free throws I'd go by percentage.

Speed, vertical, and all the physical stats are just best guesses for me. I usually try to base it off of other player's stats and try to guess from there. Like say I want Shannon Brown's vertical. So I look for it and basically copy it. Just remember that physical stats are also based on what position you're player plays and how tall they are. Like a 7 footer with 80 speed is going to be faster than a 6 footer with 80 speed. And for instance Dwight Howard has a 98 vertical rating while Shannon Brown only has a 96. But because Howard is a center his vertical is automatically lower.

The other stats you should think of as grades like A's and B's just extend the C's, D's and F's about 10 points.

Ok, that formular might work for shooting.

To be 100% clear. Stat wise, I was talking how well I shoot, etc in real life, converting it to 2K

Then that would be assuming the guy can't play basketball at a high level, how do we know that he couldn't possibly make it to the nba and be fairly decent? Not everyone makes it to the nba even if they are good enough.

I did this in last year's game. Made myself and a bunch of my buddies who play hoop on the weekends, then we played as ourselves against each other in the game. It was fun.

What I did was look at each individual rating and try to find how the game rated NBA players who I know are average joes at those things in real life, and use that as a baseline for comparison. There are lots of specialists in the league who are pros because of one or two things, and who are pretty average (or downright bad) in others.

For example, you could check out Brian Scalabrine's handle, Troy Murphy's speed and Glen Davis's stamina. If you're a decent athlete/player, you can probably rate yourself at their levels (or higher, maybe much higher, lol) in those attributes.

I remember having a discussion here about that last season (giving oneself real life ratings). There was a pretty good split between one set of folks who believed any regular player's attributes should be as low as they could possibly be set while others (myself included) felt at least some attributes could rate above the bottom of the barrel.

Even though I know you were just making hypothetical examples, right off the bat I still think I'd have to dispute Glen Davis' stamina. He might appear overweight, but he was able to play 38mpg in the playoffs while dropping 19 and 9. Stamina is actually one of the attributes I feel most "regular" folk would not rate well in 2K. It's pretty tough to simulate the 48 minute NBA pace. Most of the league guys have spent a large portion of their careers working up to being able to play at such a pace. Meanwhile, there's just not a lot regular folk can do to prepare for such exertion without actually experiencing it. So if nothing else, we'd have to expect a wild adjustment of our stamina over time were we to ever hypothetically step on an NBA court.

That aside, I'd agree with you on some other aspects. It's just dangerous ground because many interpret any slighting of any NBA player's skill as pure lunacy. Granted, in many cases I believe NBA players are better at a lot of things than we may believe based on their in-game performance, but I still think that leaves room for seasoned regular players to pick up some ratings above 25 in a number of categories.
