Why are defenders leaving their assignments?

I've read through several topics and countless comments but still have yet to find a logical explanation as to why some defenders, during game simply leave their man in which their supposed to be guarding, I can't understand it?

It happens more on defense and it's not just with scrub players, it's happening with any player at random. I'm really enjoying 2K12 but it annoys the HELL out of me when I'm trying to get back in the game to see my A.I. team mate just walk away from his assignment which usually results in an open shot or a drive to the basket. The majority of the game I defend the ball where ever it goes, if not. . . I'm giving up an uncontested jumper/lay-up and that's not the way it is but, since my A.I. team mates walk away from their assignments I have to occasionally switch to that wandering defender which still leaves a shooter open for a brief moment. Enough time for the cpu to generate a basket

The same can be said on the offensive side of the ball to, if I elect to run a play at times my play becomes busted. At any given moment bigs will vacate the post or the mid range sections of the floor. When it happens it's usually one player but there are times when two bigs have walked off

I've read of changing plays for bigs to low-post or reducing the Isolation slider for freelance under tendencies but since there really is no slider to combat this issue on the defensive side of the ball per player what do you do?

In Coach Profiles, change the settings for your team to 100 Defensive Pressure, 0 Help Defense, and 0 Double Teams and check to see if defenders still leave their assignments. I haven't tested at those extremes, but I'm sure you will see a major improvement based on the settings I have tested.

Here is an example I have from an Online Association that im in..



I'm the Cavs and I mean he just completely leaves Raymond Felton wide open and goes straight to the paint. I moved him back to Felton but then he went right back. I even had my defensive strategy at "Pressure shooters" and Help Defense at 0 in the coach profiles

I've been making those adjustments since you first pointed me in that direction in another discussion. It still happens.

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It still occurs with coaching adjustments as well. For some weird reason it happens on offense for User only.

Go in and change your defensive setting for that post guy from auto to a specific setting. It looks like the cpu may be auto setting him to double in the post.
You also might want to make sure that the player doubling is set to moderate or tight defense for his assignment as well so he doesn't sag off.

Can somebody please explain why this is happening because I'm also very frustrated about this?

Bingo.

Makes you hope they fix the help defensive assignments because the spots they head to right now don't really "help." They just completely put them out of position.

I gotta say it because you know it's gonna be said eventually: Play better defense, play on-ball defense, lower it to rookie, learn to play the game etc. etc..
