How the Frick Do You Play Defense

I have been playing 2K since 2K8. I'm not that good at this game. I am okay. In my Bulls 'chise I started so far I am like 4-3 and I just gave up 117 points to the freaking T'Wolves and Beasily scored 30 points on Rudy Gay! I am ranked like 2nd in the league and defense.

So how do you play defense? I tend to play on ball defense. If I see a screen is coming for the shooting guard or small forward I switch off and try and block the screen. Most of the time I adjust the coaching adjustments. Not sure who to play tight, who to deny ball, who to sag off. Like I just said, I played the Wolves. I doubled Love in the Post, played tight on ball and deny ball for Beasily, deny ball for Brewer and auto for the rest. Obviously that didn't work.

I am using Yellz sliders so I don't know what's going on. I would like to learn how to completely shut down teams in this game. Seems like weather or not I get a stop is strickly by chance it seems like half the time!

Thanks!

Re: How the Frick Do You Play Defense

It could be just a fluke given you said you are 2nd in the league in defense. No team plays good defense every game in a season.

EDIT: To answer your question, Off ball I do "Deny Ball" for star swingmen and double-team big guys in the low post only. I would also play them tight on ball and/or off ball.

Re: How the Frick Do You Play Defense

ight imma tell you what it do.

off the the ball: Everyone tight
on ball: auto since i play on the ball d

i turn the help d down all the way down because player tend to leave their man to much on any sudden move to the hoop. Now this is where hand eye and skill come into play. Make sure d assist is on 0 BUT he you find you cant keep with anyone adjust to where you are comfortable BUT NEVER put it on 100. Ok now time to play..alot of people are hacks, they love jamming the steal button instead of just defending. Steals will come, just slow the d down and just guard the man wit the ball. When he moves you move. I also like to use L2 / LT when the player is trying to drive to add that added pressure. If your quick enough with the movement you will cut him off and force him to reset or pass the ball.

Now in the post when being back down, hold L2 / LT and when he shoots flick the right stick to the side he shooting and jump. They will miss more then make....hmmmm i think thats all ill give lol

Re: How the Frick Do You Play Defense

I'd have a go at exclusively playing defense in the paint. As the bulls, I'm presuming you have boozer? That scrub defender what he is.

Control him. Off ball, work on keeping you man out of the paint by holding L2/LT and then once you've bodied up push the left stick toward the man your guarding. Boozer's a strong guy, he'll muscle them out. Their big guys should be getting the ball 17-19 feet away from the hole. They'll put up crappy shots, and you'll be grinning. Rely on your A.I. to take care of business on the perimeter. It should with your roster.

You should also work on your shot block timing. Don't spam Triangle/Y. wait for it.

This is how I honed my defense skills. Now I can play on ball quite effectively. Also, don't use L2/LT when on ball defensing too much, only when a speedy guy looks like he's about to get away from you.
