Is this considered a cheese tactic?

When I'm playing online and I'm facing very quick guards that get to the rim real easy (i.e. Derrick Rose) I often stick to playing off ball defense with my center. I'll normally shadow the side of the rim where said player is. I'll keep track of where the opposing center is relative to the hoop but I'll normally have myself available for help defense.

Anyway, I'm asking because I recently got called out for doing this. The person i was playing quit 10secs for I would have gotten the win (hate it when they do that!) and he sent me a message later saying how cheap that tactic was...

What do you guys think?

Yeah it requires skill to guard on ball and off ball it doesn't it's not really a cheese tactic but it's not realistic

I think it is...

It cuts of all lanes to the basket while usually the center isn't far away so there is no risk at all. Some of my friends on 2k10 did this tactic a lot in online games. I figured out quickly that if i didn't do the same thing i was going to lose. It does make for some boring games of shot blocking back and fourth.

Personally, I love when people decide to use their center on defense. It always leave someone open. Always. Either my center moves away and the PF slides over to him, etc.

I have NO problem taking the cpu off the dribble, especially with D. Rose for the mid-range jump shot.

And once I'm in the paint, they're always going to go for the pump fake.

Re: Is this considered a cheese tactic?

I wouldn't consider that cheese in my opinion. To me, cheese is using an exploit in the game's programming to gain an advantage. All you're doing is playing to your strengths. You know that you aren't able to to guard them one on one versus a fast PG, so rather than stand there and get beat to the basket all day, you control an off ball defender instead to send help. The help defense on this game can be hit or miss, so why complain if a guy decides to take this aspect of defense into his own hand?

Cheese would be taking a fast PG and continuously try to force it to the hoop on every possession instead of working the ball around on offense. How is it fair for a user to be able to do this every possession but the other user can't deploy a tactic to counterattack?

No it's not a cheese if ur opponent was smart he would of run some pick n rolls which will make u play defense, so if you're helping on the PG during the pick n rolls the guy you're playing off ball D against will slip to the basket.... or if u choose not to help the PG will get a easy mid range jumper. Simple basketball........ Quitting 10 sec in a game lame.

I usually play off- defense. Ill let my better perimeter defender guard whomever superstar they want to score w/.
That's just basketball. Defending the basket isnt some trick.
Now does it work - that's another story.

How is it not realistic? Its like playing real basketball. Instead of checking the ball you provide help support for when those dangerous guards when the attack the hoop.

Play to win the game. Not to what you, or other people, think is "Sim". If that is how you prevent D. Rose from putting up 35 in a game...do it.

Enough with these SIM rules already.
