The Game Is Not Broken, You Are.

I dont want to make this a marathon read so i'll be as direct as possible. There are specifically 2 complaints I keep seeing on these boards that i'd like to address and prove that people are overreacting.

Passing - To all the complainers: VALUE POSSESSION OF THE BALL. The fact that you're passing the ball around without discretion, which leads to turnovers, is not a patch-worthy glitch. Value the ball. Make smart passes. Dont force passes into lanes that arent open. Think like a basketball player. If that doesnt work, make the CPU Play Passing Lanes slider 0 and call it a day.

Association Trades: My biggest problem with Associations in past 2Ks has been this: TOO MANY TRADES. For instance, last year in my Association Jameer Nelson was traded 5 times in the first season. The last team he got traded to? You guessed it: The Magic! So he pretty much toured the NBA to end up right back where he started. Trades had no rhyme. No reason. Just trades for the sake of trades...
Well enter NBA2K11. Now trades arent made senselessly. They have rhyme. Even if isn't immediately obvious, they have reason. If a team is content with the talent and mix that they have, they stand pat. This is what any good GM would do. The Lakers have just won 2 straight NBA titles and they havent made a trade in over 2 years (Gasol). No more senseless trades in Association. But if you read the boards here you'll see that most people want a trade quota. They need "10-15 trades a year". And i say, i'd rather no trades than 15 trades that make zero sense. Less is more.

Let me end this by again thanking 2K for making the greatest basketball game Ive ever played and pleading for them to not overreact to the unjustified complaints from some of the people on these boards. There is a large demographic that understand and appreciate the steps 2K has made to make this game more realistic. Sometimes certain gamers need to step back and realize the game is not broken, but they might be.

Re: The Game Is Not Broken, You Are.

A couple things: Threads like this have become a dime a dozen You're likely to get this one locked up and told to address it in the impressions thread.

Regarding you're theory related to passing (I dont care about association trades): I do have concerns w/passing. A few weeks ago I was preaching basically the same thing you are. Well, after changing my "bad passing habits" caused by years of playing previous versions of the series, I no longer believe it's just a matter of taking care of the ball and bad habits. The computers ability to read every pass and successfully steal it, is dominating. There are still way to many turnovers, even when you take care of the ball. Basic passes that should be money are getting taken. I don't mind the computer being tough and getting its hands on some passes, but when I have computer controlled defenders who are seemingly "out of the play" yet last second they can turn around out of no where, or jump in front of a pass or who are able to complete a host of full court passes that would otherwise either go out of bounds or be stolen if I threw it, I have an issue with that.

On the other side of this: Your team mate AI IQ seems to be dumbed down defensively. Very rarely do your AI team mates get their hands on the computer passes, even though they are the same types of passes the user is attempting and result in a steal. Case in point are the full court passes. Mine are rarely completed. They are either thrown out of bounds, caught by the defense or my intended receiver bobbles it and the computer takes it. I'm yet to see this happen when the computer throws a full court pass. I play on "default" and switch between pro and all star. I use the 95 Bulls in my association and there is just no way that Jordan or Pippen should be defensively outplayed by Anthony Carter of the Nuggets, as I just had happen to me.

I know my reply may not be very popular, but I do feel there is a problem with to many computer steals.

There are....passing effectively is required, but in the end the CPU still does some god-like things which it shouldnt. Other than that, i dont have much to gripe about with 2K11 honestly.

I agree here. I've thrown passes in this game that I've seen a million times in NBA games that were never stolen. I could easily thrown them in real life...simple passes into the post, and the defender jumps up and backwards to steal the ball. It's just a ridiculous steal that would never happen because the human mind cannot react that quickly. Also, sometimes the pass doesn't happen as quickly as I'd want it too, again, the pretty animations hurting the gameplay.

Amen! I love this game to death but the amount of wrong passes is ridiculous.

That and the "one star trade value" glitch in Association... those are the only 2 major bugs i hate about this game. Everything else is great...

LOL no the passing is not broken i get only like 5-10 turnovers a game on superstar/sim if your post player is being fronted = no pass. Dont just swing the ball around, i run plays and lead pass almost every time and i dont have this problem anymore i even have cpu defensive awareness at 100.

You're right. Now it's all clear to me as to what I've been doing wrong. Thanks!!!

Re: The Game Is Not Broken, You Are.

Nice sarcasm lol. I'm just saying i dont have these problems, i think only thing wrong is no option for a bounce pass like on 3 on 1 breaks always lobs it or chest passes which results in turnover. You also got to play whats in front of you, if your mans fighting over screen send the lead pass down and if hes cheating then send him out to pop. its pretty simple stuff.
