Whats the deal with My Player???

My Player is GOD AWFUL. At least a PG it is.

Played my first game and ended with -60 skill points??? Mainly on stuff I cannot control.

First, whats the deal with having to be a 37 overall??? Really 2K? Really? I cant get a respectable starting overall or atleast a 50s? How can you be successful in drills when you overall and attributes are so bad that its impossible to meet to the requirements? Thats terrible.

Then I go to the game.

-I get docked heavily for allowing my man to score. So many things wrong with this that its sickening. 1) Sometimes its not even my guy that im getting docked for. 2)I guess all NBA players are garbage because they allow their guy to score in games. Get realistic, no one is holding somebody to 0 points. Especially with pathetic defensive overalls like my player has.

-Bad shot selection, bad pass, and bad steal attempt are just random. No rhyme or reason to know what youre doing on any of these. Bad Steal Attempt??? LMFAO yea right.

-The thing that hurts to most is turnovers. And with the unreal amount of garbage steals in this years game, playing PG just isnt fair.

-The thing that helps the most is assists. Cant get those because my teammates cant shoot for crap. Constantly missing shots underneath basket. How fair.

-The guy im guarding has attributes so much higher than mine and hes A LOT FASTER. Cant hang with a guy who can run circles around me.

-Oh yeah, I got docked a few times for allowing an offensive rebound. IM A POINT GUARD, SIX FEET TALL. Didnt know I was a board crasher. I cant imagine how low my rebounding attributes are.

-Its a million times harder to better your teammate grade that to drop. It can take a whole half of my teammates BS to get to a B-, then it two or three plays it can drop to a D+ just like that. GARBAGE.

-On of my goals was to limit my matchup to 7 or fewer assists. HOW THE F IS THAT FAIR. Dude passes and my teammates cant play D, so I get docked for that??

My Player is a good idea, and has improved since last year. But the goals and teammate grading system is a little overwhelming due to how poor your starting overall is.

Overall 2k11 is an amazing game. But I give My Player a 3/10

My player is awesome but I do agree with you that the grading system is insane. Minuses kill you, yet the pluses dont earn that much. If i dont foul the guy then its not a bad steal attempt, if my guy doesnt shoot then it wasnt a bad block attempt and so forth drives me nuts.

It does get better though Im 25 games in and a 60 now.

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

You can give up 40 points to Kobe and contest every shot and finish with an A+ grade. Its easy to play good defense if you aren't trying to play lockdown D everytime your guy has the ball. You don't need to grab every rebound either, but boxing your man out and preventing him from grabbing it gets your grade up. Just play smart conservative ball and your grade will go up. As a player concentrate on beiing good at 1 thing just starting out. I have a shootinh guard that's projected to go in the top 10 in the draft. After 2 combine games I have his medium shot up to 92 and I'm draining everything in the mid range.

Just play soft d, contest shots, and don't get out of position and your defensive grade should be fine. On offense don't force the ball anywhere and just let the game happen and you should get good marks. Just play smart and conservative and you should be fine.

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

Agreed! I find the My Player feature extremely frustrating. I don't want "my player" to be ranked on a leader board. I don't care if my player is better then someone else!!! I really don't care.

2k needs to give the user an option whether or not they want to participate in ranked leader boards. If a user says they want to be ranked, make the user play the current game, but if a user doesn't want to have his/her player ranked, then allow the user to have control over the game-play sliders and difficulty settings.

On the whole defense thing, it's only really broken during fast breaks when you get penalized because you're the furthest up the floor.

It penalizes you for not defending well, not for the guy scoring. If you defend well, and he scores, you can actually get "Good shot defense".

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

What disappoints me as a PG is that every time I pass it inside, my big man dribbles for about 10 seconds and then takes a shot. When I get it in there to you, take the shot so I can have my assist!!! I'm leading all rookie scorers as the 6th man on the Hawks. I'm up to a 53 overall about 9 games in.

Re: Whats the deal with My Player???

It definately takes some getting used to but I dont see anything wrong with the way the grading system is now.

You should lose points for allowing your man to score easily
- if you play good D and your man still scores the negative hit for allowing him to score is smaller than the positive bump for good D

Bad steal attempt comes from constantly trying to steal when your out of position. Bad shot comes from forcing shots espicialy when your not the teams number 1 option.

Turnovers come from trying to force passes and also since your handle rating isnt that high to start off with you have to be careful when dribbling.

Assists will come when you start finding players in good situations
-a good post player posting up asking for the ball
- a shooter open on the wing
*I will admit though at the combine and summer league its harder to get assists because the teamates arent that good

If your gaurding a guy much better look at the matchup;
- is he quick with handles but cant shoot? then give him some space
(the insider even said that before my game against John Wall)

Point gaurds get docked for giving up a rebound when its their man grabbing the board if your playing good responsible deffense you should've boxed out your man.

Yes some of the negative impacts take you for a lot but the positive ones can give you alot too.
-i.e play good d that leads to a turnover and u or one of your teamates dunks it on the break and watch how high your grade climbs

If you have a goal where u have to limit assists try too;
- force your opponent into bad plays
- once he passes the ball off to a wing deny the ball to keep him out of the play
- if he passes to a good post player when your close enough try to double down on the post.

One thing I noticed is you get grade boosts for a lot of little things that add up in the long run and from reading your complaints I see some that you might be missing out on
-good D
-good pass
-successful box out

I play pg also but my stats may differ from your because of my role 6'4 185 athletic Pg 6ppg 5brd 6ast through the combine

Not trying to attack you only trying to help
