Just played NBA 2K9 for the first time ever and..

I was not impressed.

I'll go in depth.

GAMEPLAY
  • Controls felt unresponsive
  • Releasing shots took entirely too long
  • Players skate around the court
GRAPHICS
  • Impressive arenas and crowds.. (some player faces seemed off compared to NBA Live 09)
  • Very well polished
PRESENTATION
  • Very good pre-game,halftime presentations
  • Menus were not easy to scroll through
I'm not sure what it was, but this game didn't feel good to play at all..Everything just simply felt weird and i didn't feel in control.

Classic case of a rookie who doesn't know how to play the game yet...

I'm not trying to be rude, just being honest...

I actually don't mind the shot speed. I think it's too fast in Live. A shot isn't really that quick in real life, it takes a little time. I would like to see speeds change depending on where defenders are. A guy who is wide open should take longer to setup and shoot (along with have a higher percentage) while someone tightly covered will be faster (and have less accuracy).

I've played several games from the 2k series including 2K6,2K7,2K8..This one just feels awkward.

I have been playing 2K9 for a couple months now and with the right slider settings am really enjoying. I also just picked up a used copy of Live 09 the other day and downloaded the 365 DNA and started my Blazers franchise. Have to say after playing ten games of Live it is not up to the level yet of 2K9 (IMHO). 2K9's fluid game play, animations, player modeling, courts, and overall NBA arena atmosphere are the closest I have seen to the real thing. Albeit, it's not perfect (player sliding, commentary and other minor glitches) but I think it's a great game overall. Live has some upsides and I believe is improved from 08, but again, not quite to the level of 2K9 (my copy is being returned tomorrow). Thanks

shot release - no different to 2k8,2k7 etc
menus - see above
control response - see above
players skating - they don't skate for me

verdict = troll (sorry if you aren't but it really feels that way)

but it's funny how you mention the slick presentation at half-time ...for me it's a bit weak - i mean why show desks and a set with no-one sitting at them ....looks stupid.
