Does Tim Duncan start at Power Forward or Center?

Power Forward.

And moves to Center for certain scenarios, assignments, or depleted roster.

Blair and Mcdyess play "Center" for the Spurs.

Duncan in all honesty has played center his entire career sans the years with David Robinson and the years that Rasho was there. He did start off as a PF to begin his career next to The Admiral, but he hasnt truely guarded or been guarded by a PF in years.

Watch a Spurs game (not just this year, many years), Duncan ALWAYS guards the opposing center, and the opposing center always guards him.

Duncan possibly either doesnt WANT to be labeled a center, or he has been possibly annouced as a "power forward", because Shaq, Yao etc were super popular centers, which made it hard to get voted in as a starter for the All Star Game.

Dwight Howard was the same way during his first couple years in the league. He was scared for some reason of that label. Then in year 2, Orlando moved him to center and never told him. We annouced him as PF but then made him guard the 5's (and he was always guarded by 5's on the flipside).

The big dummy finally accepted the label and relished in it once he realized that he was a virtual lock as an All Star and ASG Starter labeled as a "Center" (since there are no good 5's).

You beat me to it, I was about to post the same thing, minus the part about Dwight Howard.

Duncan started out his career playing at PF alongside Robinson, obviously, but eventually slid over to center and has been at that position for the past few years.

Why would Duncan be at PF, but Blair, who is already an undersized power forward as it is, be at center? Think about it, it doesn't make sense. Just because NBA.com lists it doesn't make it true, just look at what they list player weights (and sometimes height) at.

He plays PF and C but he mostly play C for defense and jump balls. He mostly play PF when he has a smaller PF guarding him...

He and KG doesn't want to be labeled 7 footers and C's....

Hows that? There is no such thing. Position labels do not determine where you stand, spot up, post up or shoot from. The players individual skillset determines that. Outside of Point Guard there really isnt any set position (in terms of what/where you do things) on offense.

Who you can defend while still being effective on offense determines what your "position" is.

For example, MJ posted up a TON, but that doesnt mean he was playing PF or C on offense.

SG's defended him and he defended SG's (and small 3's, Which are basically the same as SG's), so that was his "position".
