this roster took a damn long time to finish. i originally chose to do the 90 season because of the fact that the pistons, bulls, hawks and cavs were already complete and the 92 blazers, 91 lakers and 86 celtics had pretty much the same core players so i had a good head start but it still seemed to have taken forever.
anyway heres some things of note. i was torn over whether to use the current blazers since they have the correct retros or the 92 blazers since they have the correct shorts length and court design. i ultimately went with the 92 blazers slot.
i created a separate sonics, nets and bullets team, you can use which ever you want, they are identical other than the unis. the sonics unis look real nice, just like i did on 2k10, bullets are ok and i threw the nets on there last minute, at least the uni color matches the old school nets.
i usually throw in the all star teams for these season rosters but it doesnt allow you to pluck players off of the retro teams when creating a team. basically i was too lazy to trade all the players to current teams, and then trade back and redo all the rotations again. i think the roster itself should keep you occupied enough.
i found a workaround to those horrible nicknames on created players. i used the same glitch i use for renaming players and edited the nickname "dimes" and then gave that nickname to most of the caps so you wont hear "the bodyguard passes it to miracle man, stolen by mr. fundamentals!" instead the commentators mostly say nothing and occasionally will say "number 33"
as for the re-named players im really satisfied with the choices i made. most players have similar skin tones and hairstyle/color. im really disappointed though in the fact that a few random names in the database were lost, some of them very significant. barkley and miller are the biggest. davis, cooper and morris to name a few others. the strange thing is i didnt rename any players with these names. i found out way too late in the process that this happened and didnt even think to check because this didnt happen in 2k10. not a deal breaker by any means but its kinda lame that reggie miller is now "number 31" and chuck is "number 34". the only way i could check for something like this would be to play a game with every team and score with every player after every single rename i do (i think i did over 70). i was able to determine that changing daniel orton to randy white was what caused the name davis to disappear, i have no idea the correlation or why, so that tells you how random it is. theres also a few other strange occurrences with commentating where a renamed player will occasionally be called by their original name and sometimes random players will be sometimes called by their name and sometimes by number, hersey hawkins i noticed in the same game called hawkins and number 33. overall most names are in the database and this is one minor flaw in what i think is possibly my best roster to date.
i decided to just fill out the current teams that werent in use with all the top rated players so if you take this roster into association or season mode you wont have stars signing to random teams and ruining the retro experience. just make sure to customize the league properly. i also edited down the remaining players and the free agent list has a nice list of edited players with generic-ish names.
it wouldnt let me upload the file to 2kshare without changing vinny del negro so after you download it add the "o" on the "negr"
ive been using default sliders/allstar/simulation, the game is playing good to me, even better today after the patch. if anyone has any suggestions for sliders or tweeks that need to be made to the roster, feedback etc... appreciate it.
i have been having a blast playing with this the last few days. i made some nice playlists using rubens custom music to help the late 80s early 90s atmosphere. i added a few songs of my own and am continuing to add more here and there. i love the player of the game highlights, i usually re-play it 4 or 5 times lol. i just set my 1990 playlists up to "all arenas" each time i pop in the game and dont save my profile to avoid having to redo my current nba playlists.
no decision yet on what i will do next as far as rosters. i am contemplating jumping ahead to 99-00, maybe ill do some years in between after that but for right now im gonna take a break for maybe a few weeks and might start an 89-90 season or association, i havent really played association for real since 2k8.
ok, this post is long enough, go get it, enjoy!
