What does Proving Grounds actually affect?

As most of you already know, when you start a new MyCareer, you pick a team and then go through the Proving Grounds, and subsequently workouts with the team you chose at the start.

My question is: Does it even matter? Has anyone tested what happens if you do very poorly and/or just sit there while the other players play? If you still get signed to the team you chose at the start, then it seems like a real waste to have to sit through nearly 2 hours of unskippable cutscenes and gameplay when you will always sign with that team.

I ended up just sitting the controller down my second go around and wad still able to advance correctly

If you skip or play poorly you'll start out with 0 minutes and will barely play in your first few games

That's really unfortunate, but not surprising. It wouldn't be so bad if you could skip the cutscenes. Think I'll try it now, as well.

I've heard people complain rather loudly about not being able to play any type of minutes if they do poorly in the Proving Grounds stuff sooo...

In my second attempt at MyCareer, I dominated in Game 1, dropped 20 points and then Bryan came up to me and gave me his number. I got 0 minutes in the first two NBA games of my career even though I was going hard in the Proving Ground so I'm not sure what's going on.
